Information about the division
The Plasma Physics and Fusion Energy group at the Department of Earth and Space Sciences has its main activities in modelling, simulation and analysis of tokamak plasmas. A major part of the work is towards the establishment of a predictive capability of turbulent transport for fusion energy grade plasmas and model validation towards current experiments. The group has extensive collaborations with major fusion devices and are taking part in the developments for ITER and DEMO and the activities are fully integrated with the European (EUROfusion) activities.
The details of the departmental research activities may be found at http://www.chalmers.se/en/departments/rss/.
The succesful applicant is expected to help develop a multiscale modelling capability for fusion codes and/or improve the numerical performance of our main modelling tools. There are several different aspects of this work ranging from numerical optimisation, parallelisation and integration work with external workflows. The focus will be chosen based on the skills profile of the succesful applicant.
Your major responsibility as an Application expert in fusion modelling is to develop the modelling tools used in the group and to support end users. Depending on background and interests an individual research agenda will be promoted. The position potentially also includes some support to other users in other fields through smaller consultancy work on numerical optimisation for other codes. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.
Full-time temporary employment. The position is initially for one year.
To qualify for the position, you must have an academic degree in a relevant field; the degree should generally not be older than three years. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education. The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
The application should be marked with Ref 20140137 and written in English. The application should be sent electronically via Chalmers webpage.
Application deadline: April 30, 2014
