Surface Chemistry a business unit of AkzoNobel, operates in 50 countries, employing over 1500 people. Based in Chicago, IL, United States, with regional marketing centers in Bridgewater, NJ, United States, Singapore and Stenungsund, Sweden, we are leading supplier of specialty surfactants and synthetic and bio-polymers additives. Using a combination of Chemical expertise, process technology and application know-how, we solve problems for a multitude of manufacturers and formulators. We service a wide range of industries including agro, asphalt, cleaning, fabric care, mining, personal care and petroleum.

Our business segment Asphalt Applications specializes in advanced chemistry for the pavement industry. Our business philosophy is to develop chemistry and technology which, when used in a system, will improve the performance and durability of asphalt pavements.

We are strengthening our successful Asphalt Applications team and have an immediate opening for an individual who can fulfil the following key role for the Asphalt Application team at AkzoNobel Surface Chemistry in Stenungsund. This is a permanent position on a full time basis, reporting to the Section Manager Asphalt Applications.

You will be working within the Asphalt application team on developing new chemical solutions to market driven requirements. Main responsibilities will be :
- Develop and evaluate new products and technologies for Asphalt Applications and be the key holder of chemistry and surface chemistry knowledge in the asphalt application team
- Carry out practical lab work in the form of technical service to customers. Take part in customer visits
- Plan and performs Laboratory work, interprets and reports results
- Solve problems related to products and processes
- Maintain interaction with internal and external customers (indirect, direct) as well as counterparts at other R&D sites
- Maintain and develops expertise in technologies in the asphalt area by following and evaluating literature and patents

You have a BSc or MSc in organic or surface chemistry with 5-7 years of relevant work experience in the industry. Work experience or knowledge from the petrochemical industry (Asphalt, oil, refinery) is an advantage.

You have good communication and cooperation skills since you will be working with persons inside or outside your team as well as you enjoy building relations with customers and colleagues. You are fluent in English, both written and spoken as well as you have experience in operating in an international working environment. You enjoy working independently as well as working in a team. You get challenged by meeting high set targets and delivering results. In addition, you are curious and make sure to understand internal or external customer needs before taking actions.
