The Department of Clinical Sciences of SLU invites applications to a position as clinical instructor with responsibility for the activities within the Ruminant Clinic. 

The Ruminant Clinic is one of SLU’s specialised clinics for education and research. Our activities are based on i) individual cases referred for diagnosis and treatment, that may also lead to prophylactic activities on herd level, ii) herd visits including investigations of ruminant health problems and iii) advisory services to veterinarians and farmer organisations. All parts include veterinary under- and post-graduate education, together with other teachers and researchers. Clinical material is also used for research. The facilities are modern and we have access to advanced diagnostic imaging and accredited laboratories, as well as dedicated colleagues. This is an environment and position that will allow you to develop your skills.

Duties:
You are coming to a clinic in transformation and will coordinate and participate in the clinical activities, including the implementation of actions within individual and herd medicine, education and research. You will work towards set goals, run and develop the clinic in close collaboration with the chaired Professor of Ruminant Medicine and staff in the clinic, teachers and researchers in other subjects within and outside the department and the faculty (such as animal nutrition, microbiology, veterinary pathology and animal reproduction). 

You will be responsible for the communication with referring veterinarians and farmers and the organisation of students, interns, residents, as well as teaching and research activities within the clinic. Your role as coordinator and teacher will contribute to efficient clinical education and research of international standard and excellent service to veterinarians, farmers and organisations. Additionally, teaching ruminant medicine and surgery of ruminants including lectures, seminars, practical training and wet labs, examinations and supervision of students, interns and residents in the clinic and in the field is included. Work after office hours and on weekends may be included.

Qualifications:
You have received, or are eligible to be examined to obtain, an internationally acknowledged specialist degree in ruminant medicine (Diplomate of the European College of Bovine Health Management, ECBHM), preferably after having passed a residency training programme or have another similar degree and training allowing you to supervise residents of the ECBHM, as well as documented clinical experience within ruminant medicine and surgery, at individual and herd level. You are eligible to practice veterinary medicine in Sweden. Postgraduate education and research experience within relevant subjects are merits, as well as experience from leading and developing clinical activities. Teaching experiences, preferably at university level, and training in pedagogics for higher education are merits, as well. Personal qualities, such as a positive approach, organisational skills, and abilities to communicate and collaborate are important. Personal skills are therefore an important part of the evaluation.

Good command of spoken and written English is required and desirable in the Swedish language. Non-Swedish speaking candidates are expected to learn Swedish through intensive courses that will be offered during the probationary period. European drivers’ license, minimum type B, is also required.
