AstraZeneca is currently making large investments to increase our research capability in Inhaled Pharmaceuticals, in Mölndal, Sweden. We are investing in new equipment, new technologies and more people. We now aim to increase the number of people working with Product Development for Inhalation by. We therefore seek people with knowledge in various skills relevant for inhaled drug delivery, such as formulation science, analytical chemistry, solid state properties, device development and biopharmaceutical sciences.
AstraZeneca Mölndal is one of AstraZeneca?s three core sites for drug research, with about 2.500 employees at site. At Product Development, Sweden, a sub-division of Pharmaceutical Development, we focus on the fields of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases and on Respiratory, Inflammatory and Autoimmune Diseases. Within Product Development Inhalation we have an exciting pipeline, consisting of both new molecules and new devices. The unit currently comprises 80 people, dedicated to research and development for new inhaled drug products and we want you to be a part of growing our expertise in this area.

The Role
As Director for our Device & Packaging Development Unit, you will focus on turning good ideas into innovative, effective device and packaging solutions that make a real difference for the patient. You will provide both strategic and operational leadership to a unit comprising of skills in engineering, material characterization, process design and project management. You are an experienced manager with a track record in designing and developing novel inhalation devices with the corresponding manufacturing processes .You will work closely with Formulation & Analytical Science, Physical Science and Patent specialists within Pharmaceutical Development, but also with AstraZeneca Operations and external partners. You will report to VP InhalationProduct Development and will be a key member of the leadership team. You will lead a unit of approximately 30+ staff via 3 team managers including a small number of senior scientific staff and project.

Requirements
You have a strong scientific and technical background such as PhD or Master in Engineering, Chemistry or Pharmacy with extensive industrial experience in inhaled device development. You have significant experience of leading and managing teams of people and financial budgetary managements. In addition you have excellent understanding of the overall drug development process from discovery through launch with an appreciation how Pharmaceutical development contributes to R&D and the broader business.
