Introduction And Overview
Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for a European Patent Attorney located in Helsingborg, Sweden. The position will report to the Assistant General Counsel – Patents.

In this position, you will assume primary responsibility for the patent matters of the Consumer Health R&D team in Sweden. This R&D team focuses on the development of smoking cessation, cough & cold and digestive health consumer products. As a creative driver of technology, you will collaborate with the business to identify innovations and enable commercially significant inventions to be protected by valid patents, avoid infringement of third-party patents and evaluate and counsel the business about external innovation opportunities and relationships.

As A Director Patent Law You Will:
Provide a full range of patent support functions including preparation and prosecution of patent applications, performance of freedom-to-operate studies (e.g., infringement and validity analysis), and client counseling.
Provide input on IP provisions of agreements.
Deliver due diligence support for business development activities.
Support patent litigation and/or pre-litigation strategy efforts including finding opportunities to enforce patent rights.
Manage relationships with external firms, partners and/or outside counsel.
Gain an in-depth knowledge of the technologies, commercial models, competitive strategies and patent landscape.
Work jointly and strategically with clients and internal partners.
Work collaboratively with patent and cross-functional legal team members to deliver comprehensive legal advice to the business.
Train and make regular presentations to the business about patents, external partnership best-practices and due diligence matters.
Provide leadership, mentoring and guidance for others within the department.
Independently give well organized and thoughtful presentations to upper management and department colleagues.


What You Will Need To Succeed
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a positive attitude, high emotional intelligence and the ability to work in a highly matrixed business environment. You have high degree of independence to provide patent support to an R&D project team and IP advice to a business/commercial team. You are an excellent colleague and have outstanding collaboration skills.

Qualifications
A minimum of a bachelor degree or equivalent (required), e.g. a degree in the sciences, computer science or engineering. An accredited law degree (LLB or LLM) is meriting.
Passed in full the European Qualifying Exam (required).
>10 years of proven experience (can include both scientific/technical and patent law experience) (required).
Proficient knowledge of English language (required).
Ability to travel internationally (up to 5% of the time) (required).
5 years or more of experience in patent practice (preferred).
Authorized patent attorney (SE) (preferred).
Prior in-house legal experience (preferred).
