The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) is recruiting a full-time in-house research editor to join its Editorial and Publications Department.You will be responsible for editing books written in English by SIPRI's international staff of researchers and commissioned authors on armaments, disarmament, armed conflict and international security.You will: edit text to improve the style and disposition of material; check facts against source material, in close consultation with authors; and coordinate the work of several authors of a single volume.The work will also involve the preparation of marketing materials and design of special publications.SIPRI's publications are listed at http://books.sipri.org/ and there is more information about SIPRI at http://www.sipri.org/.Required skills and experience: - English as native language.- 2 years' experience as an editor for academic or official readerships.- Experience of searching for facts in databases, in libraries and on the Internet.- Strong organizational and project-management skills.- Ability to write well and observe detail; to cooperate professionally with authors; and to maintain deadlines under time pressure.Desired skills and experience: - A degree, preferably in political science, English language or international relations.- An interest in SIPRI's areas of research.- Working knowledge of other languages.- A good eye for design of printed materials.- Experience of working with Macintosh computers.- Knowledge of HTML and experience of web-based publishing.Mark your envelope 'ED2007/1' and indicate in your letter whether you wish to have your material returned to you.Only those applicants who are called for an interview will be contacted.Initial closing date for applications: 1 November 2007.Applications will continue to be accepted until the post is filled.The employment will initially be temporary until 15 May 2008, with the prospect of a permanent contract.SIPRI is an equal opportunity employer.
