The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for an Electrical Engineer.

Description of directorate/division
The Accelerator Division is responsible for the design, construction, installation and commissioning of the ESS accelerator, in collaboration with partner institutions and with other divisions of the ESS.

The Specialised Technical Services Group provides cryogenic, vacuum and test stand systems for the ESS project consistent with project scope, cost and schedule. Operations of these systems are also the group’s responsibility. The group’s work is designed not only to successfully complete the ESS project but also to enable long term capacity in cryogenics, vacuum and cryomodule development infrastructure for the ESS Laboratory.

Specialised Technical Services is also responsible for all integration, installation and technical utilities within the accelerator Tunnel, Gallery and Support buildings as described in the ACCSYS project scope of work. Staff members of STS act as the interface between the Accelerator Project and Conventional Facilities for areas such as space and utility requirements. Group members also provide support to ESS in the areas of electrical and cooling system modeling and development of the grounding system of the accelerator complex.

Main responsibilities?
As Electrical Engineer you will provide engineering analysis for the accelerator system (ACCSYS) technical cable plant, help manage the installation and commissioning of this cable plant and provide electrical engineering support for the planning and execution of the installation of equipment in the accelerator complex as covered by the Accelerator Integration and Installation work package (ACCSYS WP9). That includes planning of the cable routing, driving the cable and cable connectors interfaces, assisting in the documentation of electrical systems and cables installed in the tunnel and gallery, performing other common tasks that are relevant to the position

Qualifications?
To be successful in this position you need to be decisive and have the ability to initiate action whenever needed. You know how to apply your expertise and technology skills when faced with challenging problems or situations and are happy to share your knowledge and findings with others. You also work hard on achieving your professional goals and objectives with enthusiasm and are willing to develop your technical and behavioral competencies continuously. 

You have an MSc in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, and a previous experience from working in large accelerator laboratories (such as, but not limited to, high energy physics labs, light sources, spallation sources). You have a sound working knowledge of accelerator subsystems and you are familiar with the various types of connectors and cables normally used to power and control the different accelerator systems. We expect you to be fluent in written and spoken English.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
