English Teacher Year 7 - 9

Internationella Engelska Skolan Järfälla is a 5-9 school with 560 students and 62 staff. The school opened in 2002 and is located in Jakobsberg, just a short walk from the train station.



We are looking for a qualified English teacher to join us from August 2019. The position is for 1 year, with a possibility of this becoming a permanent contract.  IES Järfälla is one of the most well-established schools in the IES company, with clear structures, well-functioning routines and a warm atmosphere. Järfälla is situated in the greater Stockholm area, and the school is a short walk from Jakobsberg Station.

We are looking for a person with an enthusiasm for their subject, excellent classroom management and a sincere interest in student well-being. You will be working with colleagues in the English department to plan creative and inspiring lessons, as well as overseeing the development of our local curriculum for English from Years 5 - 9. There is a lot of freedom in our school to try new material and methods in the classroom.

In addition, you will be part of a year team (arbetslag) overseeing the academic progress and well-being of students.  We are looking for a positive and creative team player, who looks for solutions, shares ideas and is open to learn from others. The role also includes mentorship of 16 students.

At IESJ, we prioritise reading. All students are expected to have a book to read, and we make time for reading to happen. Our English department and the school librarian regularly  organise book-themed events. You will be able to work closely with our enthusiastic librarian to find ways to stimulate and encourage reading.

We follow the Swedish National Curriculum for English, as a second language. But, our student body is diverse, and some know English as their third or fourth language. These students need to be taught the building blocks of the language, whilst others are fluent and have the language skills of first language speakers of English. This requires a good understanding of these differences, and the ability to adapt and plan well. We also offer IGCSE English lessons to those students who want a further challenge, and we see experience with the IGCSE as a merit. A knowledge of Swedish is also seen as a merit.
