The ILL is a fundamental research institute founded and financed by France, Germany and the United Kingdom. It is Europe's leading centre for research using neutrons and operates the brightest neutron source in the world. The ILL's Reactor Division is responsible for producing the neutrons feeding the instruments of research and for operating all the technical installations associated with the reactor. It currently has a vacancy for an:

Experienced Nuclear Safety Studies Engineer

Duties:
In liaison with the Head of the ILL Reactor Division's Nuclear safety unit (Cellule Sûreté)and in compliance with regulations governing Basic Nuclear Installations (INB), you will carry out the following missions:

- participate as nuclear safety engineer in projects to modify the existing installations or create new ones (improvements, regulatory commitments, safety reviews)
- prepare and examine the ILL's installation upgrade sheets
- perform risk analyses and nuclear safety studies in different domains (reactivity, confinement, load handling, instrumentation control, fire, explosion, earthquake, flood, etc.)
- perform calculations or determine the studies to be performed by others (internal or external)
- prepare requests for authorisation as per decision 17-DC-0616 of the ASN
- prepare the ILL's responses to the questions posed by the ASN and IRSN when examining the ILL dossiers,
- maintain the ILL's official INB standards documentation (Safety report, General Operating Rules, Internal Emergency Plan, etc.), and monitor compliance with it by ensuring its incorporation in ILL's operating documents,
- stand in for the nuclear operations engineer (discrepancy management, inspections, significant event reporting).

These are duties to be performed in liaison with ILL's heads of project, operating teams, Quality Assurance Coordination Office (BCAQ), and Quality, Risk Management and Nuclear Safety Unit (CQSR). Once you are qualified you will participate in the Reactor Division's on-call duty engineer rota.

Qualifications and experience:
You have a Master-level degree (or equivalent engineering qualification) and at least 5 years professional experience in nuclear safety studies for reactors, industrial installations or other such laboratories.

We are looking for a capacity to perform or manage engineering studies in areas such as nuclear engineering, radiological consequences, mechanics, thermal hydraulics, neutronics, instrumentation control, etc.

You should have good relational skills, and a serious meticulous approach to your work. You must have skill in the production of technical documentation, and the ability to carry our missions which are crucial for the safety and long-term availability of our installations.

Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and French. Knowledge of German would be an advantage.

This is an indefinite-term contract.
Position based in Grenoble, France
Medical fitness for work under ionising radiation is required.
