Frötekniker/Seed Technician

The Nordic Gene Bank (NGB) is an institution which reports to the Nordic Council of Ministers and is a centre for the conservation and utilization of plant genetic resources in the Nordic countries.NGB works to conserve and document the genetic variation in Nordic material from plant species useful for agriculture and horticulture and participates in international co-operation for the conservation and use of plant genetic resources.For further information about NGB and the Nordic Council of Ministers, see www.nordgen.org/ngb and www.norden.org

The Nordic Gene Bank is looking for a Seed Technician.The Seed Technician is responsible for the Seed Store at the Nordic Gene Bank.The seed store receives seed from collections and donations from all the Nordic countries.Seeds are processed in the seed laboratory by the Seed Technician in corporation with the staff in biology section.The seed store is responsible for controlling the quality of seeds before packning and freezing.Processing includes drying of seeds, evaluation of germination ability and health status, moisture content, TGW and seed package.
The Nordic Gene Bank every year receives many visitors and students.The seed store is responsible for teaching in seed processing and managing of seed store.

The tasks of the Seed Technician
- Processing seed requests - Processing seeds - Buying and maintenance of technical equipment - Maintenance of databases - Maintenance of base collection in Årslev, DK - Teach students and technicians in seed processing and management of the seed store.

Required skills
- Precision, accurary and systematic approach - Technical education or equivalent - Experience with seed processing and seed quality - Experience with databases - Working knowledge of at least one Nordic Language as well as English - Driving license.

Contract
