Head of Intellectual Property, Volvo Group

Intellectual Property (IP) enjoys a high profile as a valued asset and business tool throughout the entire Group and as a consequence of this, Volvo has established a full-service global IP organisation, presently with offices in Gothenburg (Sweden), Lyon (France) and Greensboro (USA). An integration project is also ongoing for IP in Japan. The global IP organization is based within Volvo Technology Corporation which is the R&D and innovation company in the Volvo Group. Job Description: As Head of Intellectual Property you will have the overall responsibility for the Intellectual Property strategy and portfolio in the Volvo Group. This responsibility includes: Develop the structure of the IP organization. Maintain and develop excellent relations with Business Areas and Business Units (BA/Bus) as well as other corporate functions in the Volvo Group within the IP area. Define, agree, communicate and implement the IP strategy into all Group processes in close cooperation with BA/BUs and other stakeholders. Ensure that the IP organization has, and is motivated to achieve, clearly formulated and agreed business objectives, aligned with the Volvo Group strategic objectives. Ensure that the IP organization is properly resourced and have the capacity, commitment and competence to achieve the planned objectives. Continuously inspire, develop and motivate the people resources to perform at their best. Experience and qualifications: As head of the Volvo Group Intellectual Property organization, you need to have clear vision, a global business mindset and proven successful people & culture leadership. One of your key qualities is communication and you act as an inspiring leader through your own work, engagement and behaviour. You have a strong track record in change management, gained in a highly competitive business environment and successful leadership experience in industry or private practice. Personal integrity, holistic view and system thinking, together with the ability to join forces throughout the Volvo Group are important qualities to succeed in this role You have a degree and background within automotive technology (Electronics, Electrics, Mechanics or Physics) and practical experience of IP issues. Preferably you are an European Patent Attorney. An excellent command of English is required. A working knowledge of French, German and/or Japanese would also be advantageous.
