Internship in veterinary Diagnostic Imaging

Arbetsbeskrivning

University Animal Hospital
The University animal hospital (UDS) at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) is one of Sweden’s largest animal hospitals. UDS together with the veterinary faculty at SLU is a resource for research and the clinical training of veterinary students and veterinary nurses of SLU. UDS has approximately 200 employees that provide high quality animal care to cats, dogs, small pets and horses and also has an ambulatory service for farm animals.

The Diagnostic Imaging Clinic at UDS is the largest in Sweden and one of the largest Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging Sections in Europe, and we offer standard small and large animal track ECVDI residency programmes. In 2014 UDS moved into a new facility that is one of Europe´s most modern animal hospitals. The Diagnostic Imaging Clinic does small and large animal diagnostic imaging for UDS patients, operates a Diagnostic imaging service for external small and large animal patients and a teleradiology service for images sent in from external clinics in Sweden.

The clinic is equipped with small and large animal radiography, small animal fluoroscopy, small and large animal ultrasound, small and large animal 64-slice CT, 1.5 T small animal MRI, 0.27 T equine standing MRI, small and large animal nuclear medicine including a hotlab.

The clinic has many international contacts and often has foreign vets visiting or working with us. The clinic currently has 11 radiologists (six Dip ECVDI, five Swedish specialists in diagnostic imaging in dogs and cats, two candidates for the British certificate of DI) and 8 technical staff. Our nurses/technicians are specialized and work only with diagnostic imaging.

The internship is a one year clinical position. The goal is to give the intern the opportunity to gain deeper knowledge and get a broad based experience within the field of small animal Diagnostic Imaging. This successful candidate will work together with a group of specialized colleagues, and get support and instruction in performing and interpreting diagnostic imaging examinations. The intern will work mainly with small animal radiography and ultrasound and have the opportunity to learn about advanced techniques such as CT, MR and scintigraphy through participation in daily radiology rounds, weekly journal clubs and periods of auscultation.

The internship is also intended to provide the first step for a candidate with a strong interest in veterinary diagnostic imaging to start an academic, research and clinical career in veterinary diagnostic imaging.

The applicant is expected to take an active part in the education and supervision of veterinary and nursing students and participate and help with research projects and other general work in the diagnostic imaging the clinic.
