DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
The incumbent works under the overall supervision of the Information Management Officer and under direct supervision of the LES Systems Manager.
Systems Administration for the unclassified networks: 40%of time, Server maintenance and Active Directory administration, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and logging.
Configuration and installation of new servers, workstations, network hardware and other network peripherals.Configuration and capacity planning, performance analysis and memory optimization.
Software specialist for Windows 2000 and 2003.
Provides systems statistics and data to LES Systems Manager and IMO upon request. Security/Anti-Virus Administration 25% of time. Install security updates and patches on all systems to meet Department dead-lines.Upon request of the LES Systems Manager or IMO, implementation and verification of DS Security regulations.Advises LES Systems Manager and IMO of possible vulnerabilities.Configuring, loading, and Maintaining oftware/Hardware15%of time. Assist LES System Manager to configure, implement, and maintain all software in use at post (including COTS and corporate software). Assist with configuring and maintaining server and workstations on the unclassified networks. Insure all software on client PCs is properly configured and is compliant with IRM and DS security configuration requirements. Resolve non-compliance issues in a timely manner, or report complex matters to the IMO and/or LES LAN Manager as soon as possible. Assists in the handling and maintaining of all applications including Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) and Corporate (local and State Department developed) applications including Consular, FMO, Management and GSO-specific applications. The incumbent must also keep abreast of the constantly evolving world of personal computers. This is accomplished through on the job training (both with a senior individual and self-initiated), and consultation with any variety of computer-related publications during working hours as well as on one's own time. A thorough knowledge of the interconnection and interoperation of computers installed on a large Local Area Network (LAN) is also essential.
The incumbent must be able to install and configure peripherals to be connected to the network. The planning, installation and configuration of the proper software components for the particular computer's intended task is also necessary. User Support Services 20 % of time. The incumbent of this position is responsible for responding to emergency Help Desk calls and insuring all users receive timely and complete service. This includes troubleshooting, and correcting all computer and network system faults that are attributable to hardware and/or software failure, incorrect configuration or user errors. In the event of a user error, the incumbent must provide user training, explaining the "how and why" of correct computer usage. The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining an accurate and complete log of help calls. The incumbent may be required to have computer training sessions for Embassy users in basic Microsoft Office application or equivalent.
Kvalifikationer:
A university degree in computer science or an equivalent combination of four years technical training and relevant work experience is required. Preference will be given to applicants with at least two years experience as a systems administrator supporting a min. 200-node computer network. MCSA/MCSE Windows 2000/2003, Comp Tia Network+and A+certifications are recommended but not reguired
