Lead Studio Engineer

This position is organized within Product Design, Complete Vehicle. As a Group Function our mission is to create pioneering products and services by mastering the Product Design of the customer and user experience for all brands and BA?s within Volvo Group. We develop the soul of each brand and secure visual brand distinction for all Volvo Group product areas.

We are now looking for a Lead Studio Engineer for Exteriors to support Volvo Trucks in our Gothenburg Design Studio. As Lead Studio Engineer you will be asked to generate and develop solutions to technically challenging areas on new product developments.

As Lead Studio Engineer you are expected to:
-Represent Product Design Department in cross-functional teams
-Project Product Designs interests when communicating with Engineering and suppliers.
-Introduce new technical solutions
-Communicate technical data between Product Design and Engineering.
-Build cooperating network between Design and Engineering.
-Create various technical specifications to direct design work, this will include sketching, clay modeling and 3d data.
-Analyze and respond to technical pre-requisites in projects from a strict
-Product Design perspective and to give clear feedback and input back to the project.
-Be accessible for spontaneous dialogue around technical solutions for innovative, brand specific design concepts before they become "official" in the form of a DSM release
-Participate actively in the evaluation of concept sketches, VR models and physical models with respect to legal, ergonomic and technical requirements
-Create and update design lay-outs, reference data according to engineering structures.
-Support /Assist in the development and construction of 3D models with respect to dimensional and technical constraints and model build in general.
-Support studio work and ensure correct technical and geometrical status towards physical models, mock-ups and ergonomic bucks.
-Communicate Cab Engineering concepts, ideas and requests to the
-Product Design team for evaluation and feedback.
-Identify and propose solutions for conflicts between feature requirements and technical feasibility.
-Participate in Product Designs development process.
-Act as active link between Product Design and engineering departments.
-Check that deliveries from Product Design have the necessary content and quality.
-Confirm with the project group that the technical parameters are worked into the design.
-Inform the project group if technical parameters are not worked into the design.
-To continually be aware, updated and educated in the latest engineering trends, system tools and tooling development processes.

Qualifications / Experience
-Degree or equivalent qualification in Automotive or Mechanical Engineering
-Strong knowledge of design, packaging, engineering system solutions and integration within OEM environments
-Fully proficient in Catia V5
-Understanding of ProE
-Previous Experience as a Studio Engineer in an Automotive Studio is essential
-Self-driven and well organized
-Excellent communication skills
-Strong leadership skills
-Good knowledge in spoken & written English

The position will be located in Gothenburg. Some travel expected.
