Legal Counsel with IP/Tech experience

The Volvo Group has the ambition to lead our industry towards a sustainable transport eco-system. An ambition achieved through new exciting technologies such as Electromobility, Connectivity, Artificial Intelligence and Vehicle Automation, and through Volvo Group’s culture of high performance. These ambitions has resulted in the need to expand the GTT legal team, currently consisting of seven legal counsels in Gothenburg, Lyon and Hagerstown. As Legal Counsel your main responsibility will be to provide legal support in the full range of GTT legal matters in a truly international and high pace working environment. You will be located in Gothenburg and report to the GTT SVP Legal & Volvo Group IP. The position will require travelling from time to time. 


Main activities and responsibilities
Legal advice and support to the daily business operations, which include drafting and negotiating many different types of research-, cooperation- and development agreements, technology license agreements and joint venture agreements, but also support with respect to IPR, cyber security, and open source matters including, to a certain extent, general disputes
Advice and guidance on legal risks associated with various alternatives for achieving business objectives
Internal training on various legal issues, but also develop and update template agreements, checklists etc.
Legal advice regarding various compliance matters, such as competition law, export control and data privacy

Critical competencies for the position


As Legal Counsel, you shall have a Masters of Law and a minimum of seven to ten years solid legal experience from a law firm, as in-house legal counsel or from an equivalent position. High proficiency in drafting and negotiating complex international contracts together with solid experience and knowledge in contract and commercial law are very important requirements. Background in, or experience from, the tech sector is a merit. It is also considered positive if you have worked with areas such as artificial intelligence, electromobility, automation and connectivity.


You should also have strong personal credibility, integrity and a can-do mind set with high drive and energy and be capable of performing multiple duties effectively in a fast paced environment. Excellent English communication skills, both orally and in writing are essential.
