Manager for Product Unit Mission Equipment

What you will be a part of
Avionics Systems develops and manufactures qualified electronics, mechanics and software for demanding applications in aircraft and helicopters. Many of these products are developed in collaboration with other parts of Saab or external partners. Most of our projects are carried out in an international environment and we supply products for two of the world’s largest aircraft manufacturers, Airbus and Boeing.
Product area Integrated Avionics develops, produces, maintains and supports the products over the complete life cycle.Our customer offer is improved Situational Awareness through our system concept AVAS (Advanced Vision & Awareness System) and our products,a s well as external partners/suppliers. Products within the PA are:- Mission Equipment- Head Up Displays (AviGuide)- Communication Management products (AviCom)
Customers include international aircraft manufacturers and their tier 1 suppliers and partners. The product area staff are mainly project/product managers and systems engineers.



Your role
As manager for a Product unit within Product Area Integrated Avionics your main task will be to act as project and contract owner, and to manage and coach a team of Project Managers and Engineering resources, connected to Mission Avionics products (e.g. Computers). The role requires a combination of business understanding and manager skills, with operative focus. In cooperation with product management you will be responsible to define the roadmap of the products within your unit. You will have responsibility for the cost centre budget, and the overall goals and results within your area of responsibility. For external projects you will have customer contacts and support your resources in these contacts as needed.
The unit is formed of around about 12 employees. As the number of resources within the unit will be limited, it is important to establish an internal and external resource network to enable resource balancing. The unit have own resources that can perform Project Management tasks and lead engineering work.
Your responsibility includes ensuring that project monthly reports, appropriate project and contract directives, Cost to Completion and Sales estimations and resource allocations etc are reviewed and updated. You and your team will be resposible to provide operations data pack for quotes in your area.
The work will be performed in close collaboration with the Product Area management team, Product management and our customers.
You will report to the Head of the Product Area Integrated Avionics and be a member of the product area management team.

Your skills and experience
Appropriate professional or postgraduate qualification in a business oriented or technical discipline.
Experience of product development is important.
Business understanding and customer focus.
Understanding and ability to work in an international environment.
Proven ability to take decisions to improve profitability.
Proven ability and interest in leading, developing and challenging the organization and employees.
Strong drive, perseverance and ability to generate energy.
