Scope of Work SCA implements a disability programme in Afghanistan known as Rehabilitation of Afghans (RAD), which covers 13 provinces and is centred on the Community Based Rehabilitation concept in strategy and methodology.An important part of this programme is support of four Orthopaedic Workshops and one component workshop.With 29 technicians, nine technicians assistant and five orthopaedic trainees the programme has been running more than 12 years and is fairly well developed, but yet in need of strengthening quality, developing techniques and upgrading staff skills.To that end, an Assistant Technical Advisor for P&O is appointed to take a lead role.Essential Job Functions - To participate in analysing and developing the P&O component of the programme - To develop methods for assessing and monitoring P&O activities - To monitor the quality and progress of P&O implementation - To give advice for enhancing quality and impact of P&O services - To update and disseminate information on international developments within P&O - To support in planning, designing and reporting - To continuously ensure that skills and competencies of national counterparts are developed - To periodically work alongside technicians at the workshops and provide on-the-job training - To identify capacity building needs of key staff, and thereafter design, plan, organise and implement appropriate training and upgrading courses/programmes/modules - Relate to other organisations that provide P&O in Afghanistan and cooperate with them and government health education systems to contribute to national P&O training - To facilitate international contacts as relevant - To partake in defining and implementing appropriate advocacy work - To actively contribute to good relations and linkages with external stakeholders and networks Requirements Qualifications: Prosthetics and Orthotics (P&O) Engineer, ISPO level I Experience: Professional profile and experience of P&O in a development context Experience in training, monitoring and supervision Experience from production of P&O components Others: Experience from Afghanistan or similar relevant environment Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Good planning, analytical and troubleshooting skills Team worker Ability to cope with a stressful environment Proficiency in English essential Knowledge of Dari and/or Pashto an asset IT and computer literate Contract period: 2 year SCA offers a competitive salary, free housing, insurances and other benefits.Duties to begin as agreed.Only qualified applicants will be notified.
