PhD in "Noise and energy transport in time-dependent quantum transport"

Arbetsbeskrivning

The Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience focuses on research, innovation and education within the fields of future electronics, photonics, bio- and nanosystems. A close collaboration with Swedish and international partners within academy, industry and society enables scientific excellence and creates an innovative environment. In addition to the 200 researchers and Ph D students, MC2 houses a cleanroom for micro- and nanofabrication with the latest equipment.Information about the research/the project/the division
The announced position will be in a newly established theory research group at MC2, dealing with quantum transport and in particular with dynamic transport properties of many-body quantum systems. The research project the applicant will be involved in is related to the study of single-particle sources due to time-dependent driving of quantum systems, which are currently also experimentally developed. In particular, the combined study of noise and energy transport we aim at with this PhD project has the goal to better understand excitations occurring in quantum systems due to a time-dependent modulation.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibilities as PhD student is to pursue your own doctoral studies. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing, both in Swedish and in English. The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers' undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 20 per cent of working hours.

Positions summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of five years.

Qualifications
To qualify as a PhD student, you must have a master's level degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in a relevant field.

The applicant should have a good knowledge in mesoscopic physics or alternatively in strongly correlated electron systems.  He or she should be familiar with techniques of quantum many-body physics and interested in learning new approaches.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English. If Swedish is not your native language, you should be able to teach in Swedish after two years. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Application procedure
The application should be marked with Ref 20130190 and written in English. The application should be sent electronically via Chalmers webpage.

Application deadline: July 26, 2013
