Summary of Duties:
Under the general direction of the Political Counsellor, the incumbent recommends and carries forward objectives, plans and implementation of visits and events to support the Embassy's Political Affairs and Public Affairs program as a member of the of the Foreign Policy and Diplomacy Service (FPDS). This requires considerable political analysis and timely reporting, as well as liaison with Swedish government officials and others stakeholders from civil society organizations. Duties also include the organization of visits and other events, in cooperation with the Communications and Public Affairs officer, of high-level visits from Canada and advocacy events in support of the Political Affairs and Public Affairs program, as well as dissemination and promotion of Canadian values and interests, through outreach, advocacy, and networking activities.
Area of selection/Eligibility:
This competition is only open to candidates who meet all of the essential qualifications, the conditions of employment and whose application is received by the closing date.
Candidates must be eligible to work in Sweden. The Embassy of Canada does not sponsor work permit on behalf of applicants.
Essential Qualifications & Screening Requirements
Candidates will initially be screened on the essential qualifications below and must demonstrate in their cover letter how they meet these criteria. Only candidates meeting these essential criteria will be considered for further assessment.
Education:
Master's degree from a recognized university with a major in a discipline related to the job requirements (e.g. political science, international relations) or an *equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
*"Equivalent" meaning a combined minimum of three years' post-Bachelor's Degree experience
Language:
. Fluency in English and Swedish (oral & written)


Experience:
Minimum 2 years of recent* work experience in a similar position in an office environment, either in a government or private sector organisation, with the following expertise:
? Excellent research, analytical and reporting skills in an area of expertise, such as political affairs or international relations, related to the position;
? Proven event planning and organizational experience;
? Planning and delivering advocacy campaigns;
? Public relations
? Project management
* Recent is defined as within the last 5 years.
Knowledge:
. Knowledge of Swedish media, political and economic issues
. Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook
. Knowledge of Canadian media, political and economic issues

Management reserves the right to assess the knowledge, ability and skills and competency criteria using either of the following: written exam, interview and psychometric test.
Asset Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications:
. Fluency in French (oral & written)
. Previous experience working in a Government or public sector environment, or with an international organization
. Existing network of Swedish contacts in Government, Parliament and civil society organisations.
Organizational Needs:
Operational Requirements:
. Ability to work occasional overtime - on weekends or after normal working hours.
. Ability to travel occasionally
. Working hours are from 08:30 to 17:00, Monday to Friday, including a one hour unpaid lunch break

Conditions of Employment:
. Eligibility to reside and work in Sweden.
. Obtain and maintain an Enhanced Reliability security screening.
