Arbetsbeskrivning

About the Program:

We're currently looking for talented scientists to join our innovative academic-style Postdoc program. From our centre in Gothenburg, Sweden, you'll be in a global pharmaceutical environment, contributing to live projects right from the start. You'll take part in a comprehensive training programme, including a focus on drug discovery and development, given access to our existing Postdoctoral research, and encouraged to pursue your own independent research in cutting edge laboratories. It's a newly expanding programme spanning a range of therapeutic areas across a wide range of disciplines.

What's more, you'll have the support of a leading academic advisor, who'll provide you with the guidance and knowledge you need to develop your career. This is an exciting area that hasn't been explored to its full potential, making this an opportunity to make a real difference to the future of medical science.

About the Opportunity:

Looking for a Postdoc in industry? AstraZeneca may be for you!

In this rewarding Postdoc you will have an excellent opportunity to broaden your skills in both synthetic organic chemistry, as well as, organometallic chemistry in a creative drug discovery scientific environment. The postdoctoral scientist will be guided and coached by scientists at AstraZeneca Gothenburg, Sweden, and in addition will have the opportunity to collaborate and be mentored by Prof. Lutz Ackermann, at the University of Göttingen, Germany (http://www.ackermann.chemie.uni-goettingen.de/). This combination makes for a unique opportunity to strengthen metal catalysis skills at the interface between small molecule synthesis and chemical biology/medicinal chemistry, in an industrial setting.

The Postdoctoral fellow will be based within the CVRM Medicinal Chemistry department. In addition, the successful candidate will have the advantage to be working within the "Excellence in synthesis/automation team", a vibrant and multicultural group focused on integrating chemical technology and automation to challenging strategic medicinal chemistry tasks.

Don't miss out on a chance for your research to have a lasting impact and your career opportunities to grow.

Key Responsibilities:

* Development of synthetic methodologies for synthesis of new catalytic systems useful in LSF and bioconjugations.
* Develop synthetic methodologies for C-H functionalization in batch, flow and high-throughput.
* Application of the developed methodologies in LSF and bioconjugations of small molecule drugs.
* Work collaboratively with scientists from across multiple disciplines both internally and externally with the capacity to manage and perform research independently.
* Communicate results both within AstraZeneca via global working groups and externally at scientific meetings and through high impact publications.

Essential Education and Experience:

* A PhD in synthetic organic chemistry and/ or medicinal chemistry
* Solid background in classic organic chemistry, highly-rigorous inert techniques, purification and structural elucidation techniques.
* An in-depth knowledge and understanding in late stage functionalization reactions, focusing on C-H activation catalysis.
* Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
* An outstanding track record of research, proven by high impact publications in peer reviewed journals, patents and/ or talks at scientific meetings.

Desirable Qualifications:

* Expertise in late stage functionalization techniques and/or inorganic synthesis.
* Basic knowledge in Chemical Biology principles
* Knowledge and hands-on experience of organometallic chemistry an advantage, but not necessary.
* Proven track record of problem solving and delivery in organic chemistry/ medicinal chemistry.
* Previous relevant Postdoc experience.
* Demonstrated ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, high levels of collaboration and communication within team and across department externally with the capacity to manage and perform research independently.

Skills and Capabilities required:

* Independently designing and executing experiments and interpret results.
* Working towards defined goals in an efficient, safe and scientifically sound manner.
* Generating and testing new hypothesis.
* Willingly shares expertise and ideas, demonstrates flexibility and open-mindedness.
* Presenting results at scientific conferences and publishing scientific papers in high quality, peer-reviewed journals
