Within the department, research is conducted within three interacting fields: sustainable change, social change and urban integration with real estate and urban environment. The department´s goal is to take an active part in social development. See the research profile link at Research Profile

Real Estate Science

At Malmö University, Real Estate Science is a major area for the Bachelor of Arts degree, defined as..." the scientific study of real estates and its development with a view to acquiring a professional business-like approach to real estate issues..." The university offers education for employment within the real estate business, a sector in charge of great values and in several respects a central actor in society. An essential part of the existing real estate also changes owners, holders or tenants every year. The employment as postdoctoral research fellow is directed towards studies of these functions: intermediaries as real estate agents or realtors.

There is a notable lack of research within this subarea of real estate science, in spite of its increasing societal and individual importance. Housing represents the biggest investment that many people make, and a growing part of the housing market consists of forms of letting involving fundamental economic investments and indebtedness, while tenancy rights still remain an important part of the housing available. There are also agency problems within the commercial property market that are seldom under study.

Tasks

The tasks include conducting research based on the individual research plan. The work also comprises teaching (20%), primarily on the real estate science programmes. The employee is expected to contribute to real estate-related research and to develop the department´s interdisciplinary research environment. External communication with various actors in the line of business forms another important task.

The focus of this employment lies on the core of the real estate market related to real estate agency and realtors, activities which can be studied from the point of view of a range of different scientific disciplines. Alongside traditional social science or culture science approaches, legal, natural science and technology approaches are also possible. This covers anything from studying purely civil engineering issues related to the professional practice of the estate agent, via a number of legal, economic or financial issues as well as studying real estate from an ethical perspective. We envisage openings for profession studies as well as business line studies and are also interested in research on the wider social role of real estate agency and the real estate industry.
