Life & Peace Institute is seeking a Programme Advisor for its Head Office in Uppsala

The Life & Peace Institute (LPI) is an international and ecumenical centre, with its head office based in Uppsala, Sweden, that supports and promotes nonviolent approaches to conflict transformation through a combination of research and action that entail the strengthening of existing local capacities and enhancing preconditions for building peace. Through our field offices we work with partners in Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

As a Programme Advisor you provide technical support to LPI's programmes, engage in programme design and implementation, coordinate or carry out capacity building activities for programme staff and/or partners in the field, prepare fundraising proposals and donor reports. You join a dynamic and motivated inter-cultural team of programme staff in Uppsala and LPI's field offices. The position includes frequent travel to field programmes.

Key tasks:
Contribute to the conceptualization and planning (including proposal writing), implementation, documentation, monitoring, evaluation and learning in field programmes;
Lead, research, stay abreast of, implement and advance relevant thematic issues through technical support and guidance to field programmes;
Provide both programme and managerial advice and support to peers, Resident Representatives, Programme Managers and Director upon request and as needed;
Contribute to human resource development and institutional capacity building;
Represent LPI as needed at both internal and external meetings, international fora and events;
Engage in fundraising and donor reporting;
Assist in the development of budgets and assist the finance units in monitoring expenditures;
Undertake other tasks as assigned.
Required qualifications:
Master's degree in peace and conflict research, conflict management, political science or other relevant field;
At least 3, preferably 5 years experience of working with peacebuilding/conflict transformation theory and practice;
Prior field experience;
Strong analytical skills (conflict analysis) and good knowledge of research methods;
Strong interest in working with planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning processes;
Excellent fundraising proposal and report writing skills;
Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility and ability to work as a part of a team and under stress;
Good computer literacy in Word, Excel and Power Point;
Proficiency in written and spoken English. Working knowledge of French, Swedish, Arabic or Swahili is considered assets;
Willingness and ability to travel, sometimes with short notice.
