Project Coordinator to the Northern Development Project Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan Scope of Work The Project Coordinator for the Sida-funded Northern Development Project (NDP) is responsible for the overall management, continued development, and daily supervision of all activities under the project which includes educational, people with disability, infrastructure, livelihood and capacity building components with a strong focus on vulnerable groups. The position is based in Mazar-e-Sharif and with frequent travels to target districts of intervention in Balkh, Samangan and Jawzjan Provinces. The NDP project consists of three major pillars: (1) to contribute to access to quality basic education, with a priority for girls, through the construction of new school buildings and support of model and community-based schools; (2) to contribute to poverty reduction by promoting access, inclusion, quality and rehabilitation within the area of education and people with disability; and (3) capacity strengthening of district authorities and community institutions with an aim to build local empowerment and ability to take an active role in development approaches in their districts/communities. The Project Coordinator also ensures focus on a holistic development approach and synergies internally in SCA and with other stakeholders. The Project Coordinator is expected, besides overall guiding the project team, to further assist in developing the project design, conduct in-depth assessments and analysis, support stakeholder consultations, liaison with government authorities, ensure systems for supervision and monitoring and do direct training and capacity building, internally and externally, of management, financial and RRA/PRA systems and tools. Furthermore, the Project Coordinator will actively participate in the elaboration of work plans, reports, budgets and other strategy and policy developments. To contribute to these varied tasks and to ensure both innovation and good coordination very regular field trips are required. Qualifications: * Ideally possesses a degree at master's level, preferably in fields such as economics, social sciences or development studies from an institution of international repute. Experience: * At least 6 years experience of operational support and management of multi- sector development projects in post-conflict environment, previous work in Afghanistan is an advantage * Professional profile within field of coordination and management of integrated development schemes, with substantial experience of feasibility studies, project/programme design, baseline studies, capacity building and management for results * Experiences of work in Muslim countries an advantage * Experience to conduct community assessments to identify requirements for project intervention which promote and expand community capacity with a particular focus on women, people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups Others: * Very strong fluency in English (written and spoken), Dari and/or Pashtu an added advantage * Good project management skills and knowledge of appropriate project management tools (i.e. logical framework analysis, project cycle management, RRA/PRA, finance) * Good supervisory, team-leadership, analytical, troubleshooting skills * Proven training/capacity building skills * Ability to take initiatives, and pursue work proactively without being intensively supervised * Solid knowledge of planning, budgeting and report writing
