You will be part of Corporate Research in Västerås, which is one of the largest research centers within ABB with strong focus on innovation within Power Technology. As one of the leading engineering companies worldwide, we help our customers use electric power efficiently and increase industrial productivity in a sustainable way. We develop and deliver competitive, innovative solutions to our businesses for future product generations in areas of new materials for electrical insulation, magnetics and conduction. The R&D team works in a highly international environment in close collaboration with colleagues and business units around the world. You have an opportunity to develop ABB excellence in the area of insulation materials, to take part in technical research, strategic planning and to influence our future projects. Your role will take an active part in securing our intellectual property in the technical area, so your proactive approach towards developing appropriate technologies and methods will be crucial for successful performance. Due to growing needs of our customers you need to have a strong focus on effective problem solving, which brings innovative and value added solution. Furthermore your role will be also to commence and co-supervise university collaborations. Thus the role will give not only a chance to deepen technical expertise but also develop project management skills. To succeed in the role, you need to either a) hold Ph.D. in physical chemistry and preferably possess experience in dielectrical spectroscopy, or b) hold a M.Sc. or Ph.D. in computational chemistry and have a broad knowledge of methods used in material simulations including Molecular Dynamics and Density Functional Theory (DFT). For this later profile it is advantageous, that you possess experience of cheminformatics and/or materialinformatics and the softwares Materials Studio and Pipeline Pilot.
For both profiles, knowledge of general tools like Matlab and similar are assumed. Additionally, working in an international team requires good collaboration skills and a respectful approach towards representatives of all cultures. Proficiency in English is a must, whereas knowledge of Swedish is a plus. As an individual you need to be open minded, structured with strong focus on innovation and problem solving. Willingness to learn and be out of your comfort zone will help you develop technical skills at a faster pace.
