At ABB, we have the clear goal of driving diversity and inclusion across all dimensions: gender, LGBTQ+, abilities, ethnicity and generations. Together, we are embarking on a journey where each and every one of us, individually and collectively, welcomes and celebrates individual differences.

ABB Sweden is looking for a Research Scientist. If you have experience in feedback control with a passion to see advanced algorithms being used to solve real industrial problems and have interest in machine learning algorithms, particularly reinforcement learning methods, for process control applications, then apply today!

The primary objective of this research is to thoroughly investigate and potentially develop novel solutions for advanced AI-based control algorithms applicable to process industries. This investigation will particularly focus on exploring Reinforcement Learning algorithms, with the potential for combining them with deterministic optimal control algorithms. By delving deeper into these areas, we aim to enhance our understanding and propose innovative approaches that can effectively address the control challenges prevalent in process industries.

The teams research focus is in Industrial Networks and Control and is part of the Automation Technologies department.

This is a temporary role until the end of 2023, with the possibility of extension.
Your responsibilities
With your experience in mainly control related areas, you participate in challenging research projects and work with highly motivated researchers in ABB process automation department.
Collaborate with ABB scientists to perform feasibility studies of the available solutions, performing a comprehensive analysis and investigation on the inventions and cutting-edge ideas for the advanced process control domain.
Disseminate your results in scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports.
Build a network in the company and actively distribute your knowledge and expertise.
Following the best software development practices to ensure high quality deliverables.
Working in a cross discipline and international team, using Agile development methodology that requires active participation in all team’s activities.
Sharing your experience and skills with other team members.

Your background
You have a recent MSc or PhD in automatic control or a related field.
Theoretical and practical knowledge in multivariable control, modelling, and simulations of dynamical systems. Knowledge in reinforcement learning algorithms is very much appreciated.
Interest to publish in top scientific conferences and journals.
Knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink (Python is a plus).
Skills to design and implement the algorithms in modern edge computing solutions are also appreciated.
Eagerness to learn and willingness to start on new topics in other domains such as autonomous systems and artificial intelligence.
