Your team
The ForMAX beamline is designed for multiscale structural characterization of materials from macroscopic to molecular length scales, by combining small- and wide-angle x-ray scattering (SWAXS), scanning SWAXS imaging, and full-field tomographic imaging.

A particular focus is the development of new materials and specialty chemicals from forest raw material, contributing towards our transition to a sustainable, bio-based economy.

MAX IV is looking for a scientist to strengthen the ForMAX team through expertise in full-field tomographic imaging.  

Your main work tasks will be to

- Play a major role in the operation, maintenance, and further development of the beamline, together with the rest of the ForMAX team and technical support teams.
- Provide support for external users.
- Supervise junior team members.
- Lead research projects, with the objective to develop new full-field tomographic imaging capability for our user community.
- Actively participate in cross-beamline or facility-wide development projects.
- Develop your skills in beamline instrumentation, control systems, data acquisition pipelines, and/or data reduction and analysis tools.
- Actively participate in research collaborations with academic and industrial partners.

To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications

- PhD degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, or another relevant subject.
- Documented expertise in full-field tomographic imaging, including data analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver tasks on time, in scope, and within budget, as an individual and within a team.
- Good command of written and spoken English

Below are seen as merits

- Demonstrated evidence of method development of full-field tomographic imaging.
- Expertise in the development of data analysis or image reconstruction tools.
- Experience in development/commissioning of sample environments.
- Skills in programming.
- Previous work experience at a large scale research facility.
- Published research on materials, or demonstrated experience of working with materials, relevant for ForMAX.

As a person you are able to work independently and to take initiative. You should have strong social and communication skills. The ability to work within a team successfully is key in this role.

MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden as well as internationally, with state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. It will receive up to 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground-breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-ray light.
