Senior Designer Volvo Trucks

We are looking for a Senior Designer with 5 to 10 years experience, for Volvo Trucks, in the Design Studio in Gothenburg.

We are a small, professional, multidisciplinary design team working in a modern, state of the art design studio developing premium trucks for the global market. The person we are looking for will have an open mindset, is a team player, and is able to combine creativity with empathy and understanding for the end user to come up with innovative and practical design solutions. Furthermore, the ability to take the broader perspective and see our products in the context in which they are used and understand how they contribute to the development of society is desirable.

The successful candidate will:

-Have a degree in Industrial or Automotive Design

-Have 5 to 10 years proven industry experience

-Be curious, creative and communicative

-Be fluent in English, written and verbal

-Be used to working in cross functional, multidisciplinary teams

-Be sociable and thrive on being part of a diverse team

-Have experience in computer animation and visualization (desirable but not mandatory)


The Senior Designers tasks and responsibilities include:

-Securing holistic and consistent design solutions in line with the Volvo Design Philosophy, the Volvo Trucks Design Strategy and the Design Direction set by the Design Director

-Using his/her creativity, experience, aesthetic competence, and product and user knowledge to generate innovative, functional and attractive design solutions with strong Volvo character for trucks and truck components

-Taking the role of Lead Designer in specific projects ranging from complete vehicles to sub-systems and components supporting the Chief Designers in executing design development according to the set direction and strategies

-Interacting closely with other designers, physical and digital modelers, studio engineers and project managers within the design studio, as well as engineers, purchasers and project managers from other departments

-Supporting the Chief Designers in estimating time and budget needs

-Developing presentation material for project and management reviews

The Senior Designer will report formally to the Design Director, and operatively to the Chief Designers (Exterior and Interior).

The position will be located in Gothenburg. Some travel expected.
