The Department of Design is located in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, which is one of Linnaeus University's five faculties. At the Department of Design, we offer programmes and courses which provide the student with sound knowledge of design and a solid foundation in the field of sustainability. Tuition takes place in teams whereby different teachers with practical, theoretical and artistic perspectives teach together. Via our research, the department contributes to sustainable societal development. 

Subject area for the position: Visual Communication

Location until further notice: Växjö with travels to Kalmar

Extent and period: 80-100 %, 5 year term, with possibility of an additional term. Starting from 10 August 2023.

Duties:

Your main duty is to conduct teaching in visual communication, in line with the department's focus on sustainability and participate in the development of visual communication pedagogy and its relevance in society.

As employee, you will follow and support the development of visual communication. You will actively participate in the Department of Design's internal and external work.

One of your duties is to conduct education in visual communication on bachelor level. This may also entail responsibility for certain programmes.

Another of your duties as an employee is to participate in the coordination of the visual communication + change programme.

The position includes conducting research and applying for external funding.

The applicant is expected to participate in transdisciplinary development work within Lnu and with other actors.

Qualifications:

To be eligible for the position of Senior Lecturer in an artistic field, you must have demonstrated pedagogical proficiency. You must also have obtained a PhD in the arts, demonstrated artistic ability or have equivalent professional competence of relevance when taking into account the subject content of the position and the duties which it will include (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4, Section 4).

In accordance with Linnaeus University employment regulations, pedagogical proficiency refers to the planning, conducting and evaluation of teaching, as well as supervision and examination.

Artistic ability must have been demonstrated via a documented or recognized high level of artistic and professional ability and must show a reflective approach to professional practice.

To be qualified for this position, the applicant must also have a well-developed ability to cooperate and a proficiency to utilise an understanding of the synergies between theory and design practice in teaching, research and other work.

The Department's programmes are mostly in English, meaning that an ability to and experience of communicating in English, orally and in writing, is required.

Assessment criteria:
We consider the following assessment criteria to be of high priority:

The proficiency required for the position's eligibility requirements shall constitute the assessment criteria for the appointment of a Senior Lecturer. The examination of pedagogical proficiency will be given the same weight as the examination of artistic ability.

The applicant must have well-documented experience of teaching as well as practical design work with a focus on sustainability, and a keen interest in emerging design practices.

Experience of responsibility for bachelor level programmes is an advantage.

Other advantages:

The applicant has good international networks in the design world and good ability in and experience of collaboration with society on a regional, national and international level. We also view experience of transdisciplinary work as an advantage.

They will be deemed to have the best prerequisites for carrying out and developing the work tasks in question, as well as for contributing to the successful development of the organisation.
