Senior lecturer in Equine Science with focus on veterinary medicine

50% employment at the Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry, section of Equine Studies in Uppsala. Even the physical location shall be at this unit.

Subject area
Equine Science is a broad field with theoretical emphasis on animal science and veterinary medicine, biology and equitation. The subject integrates knowledge about biology of the horse and the utilization of horses for sport and leisure.

Duties
The position includes


• lead and develop education, within the subject area, at undergraduate and advanced level
• active participation in research within the subject area
• communicate on research and research results
• administrative duties and assignments within the university.

The senior lecturer has, within the program, a responsibility for teaching equine medicine and health care and development of the subject area in the equine sciences program. More specifically this means that the position includes the responsibility to contribute with general veterinary aspects of the horse's anatomy, physiology, exercise and reproduction as well as safety, animal welfare and ethics. The employment includes cooperation with the equestrian centers Flyinge, Strömsholm and Wången and external and internal stakeholders. The employment includes occasional travelling to the equestrian centers.

Qualifications
The applicant shall


• be scientifically skilled in the subject of employment
• be pedagogically skilled and have undergone courses in university pedagogics equivalent to 10 weeks full-time studies (or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge)
• have good knowledge of English.

The candidate has a degree of master of science in veterinary medicine and is authorized to practice as a veterinarian in Sweden. The candidate has a PhD and has documented research experience in equine sciences. Applicants must have documented practical knowledge of horses and be well acquainted with the Swedish horse industry.

As all courses in the program are given in Swedish, a good knowledge of Swedish is required.

Driving license B is required.

Assessment criteria
Assessment for the appointment will be based on the degree to which the candidate possesses the skills to qualify for the position. Equal care shall be given to the assessment of both pedagogic skills and scientific skills.

Evaluation of the scientific skills will be based on


• both research activities already carried out and ongoing research
• the ability to independently initiate and conduct research
• experience in applying for and obtaining external research funding.

Evaluation of the pedagogic skills will be based on


• experience in planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching
• experience of supervision and examination at university level.

Appointment as docent (associate professor) or equivalent competence will be considered a merit.
