Senior R&D Engineer - Additive Manufacturing

Over the past years, Sandvik has invested in an Additive Manufacturing Center (AMC) in Sandviken and several different additive machines are now installed in this R&D center. This paves the way for exciting new products and methods, as well as for new business opportunities, and today we have several products under development for our product portfolio. Even though we have started from a small base we now master the entire process - and our knowledge platform and strong experience from manufacturing, materials and customer accessibility make us unique in this field.

Our new Product Area (PA) Additive Manufacturing (AM), is based at the center in Sandviken, and has a clear growth ambition within Sandvik Machining Solutions (SMS). Therefore, we are now looking for a Senior R&D Engineer for Additive Manufacturing - Powder Bed Fusion Laser, who shares our strong ambition for this exciting and fast growing segment. The location for this position is Sandviken.

Job Summary
As a Senior R&D Engineer you contribute to our new organization by adding subject knowledge and experience, leveraging interaction with other areas of the organization and being active in operational development. You continually develop your own knowledge within your area of expertise as you capture and develop new ideas and apply them in a way that adds value to the business. Furthermore, you share skills and best practice in our function and internal networks; review and improve methods, tools and processes; and support colleagues in professional growth to increase their ability to deliver. You have no problem making decisions within a defined time; and, within the center, you are a key person regarding development work done in the binder jet or powder bed fusion machines. You are also the person responsible for support in additive manufacturing of cemented carbide materials or material and process development done in the field of powder bed fusion laser. Additionally, you work in close contact with our internal and external customers.


We are looking for someone with an MSc or a PhD in Materials Science or a similar field: e.g., metallurgy, physics or chemistry. You have experience from one or several of these areas: additive manufacturing, powder bed fusion, powder metallurgy, and material characterization; or 3D design for AM or machining. You have good skills in English, both written and verbal, while knowledge of Swedish is advantageous.
