Arbetsbeskrivning

För kunds räkning sökes: Senior Scientist/Scientist - Transboundary Air Pollution A permanent position is open for a scientist in the Air Pollution Section at the Research and Development Division of the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (met.no). The main task of the section is the modeling of transboundary transport of air pollutants on a regional and global scale in EMEP, which provides the scientific and technical underpinning of the Convention on Long Range Transmission of Air Pollutants (CLRTAP, www.unece.org/env/lrtap/welcome.html). EMEP is moving towards developing methods for earth system research with emphasis on the coupling of air pollution and climate. The new scientist is expected to contribute to this development. About 10 of the 60 researchers in the R&D Division work in the Air Pollution Section. The other sections address numerical weather prediction, oceanography and marine forecasting, remote sensing and the development of IT systems. The R&D Division is organized in projects and serves the operational part of the Norwegian Meteorological Institute as well as external project funders. The R&D division is co-located in Oslo Centre for Interdisciplinary Environmental and Social Research (CIENS) in the research park at the University of Oslo (http://www.ciens.no/5148/) and takes part in the development of the interdisciplinary environmental research in the CIENS collaboration. Depending on qualifications and interests, the new scientist may be asked to contribute also in other research areas within the R&D Division. Preferred qualifications: university education in natural sciences, preferably with a doctoral degree, experience in research on the interactions between air pollution and climate and/or another field of air pollution modeling, experience in developing and applying atmospheric transport models and/or climate models. We welcome in particular applicants with expertise on particular matter modeling. experience in team work and project leadership, for a senior scientist: a good publication record, fluency in English. It is an advantage if the new scientist is familiar with UNIX, FORTRAN-90 and PERL and has experience with parallelization and optimization routines.
