Background and Scope of Work Rehabilitation of Afghans with Disability SCA implements a disability programme known as Rehabilitation of Afghans with Disability (RAD) which covers 13 provinces. An important part of this programme is support of the 80 physiotherapists and physiotherapy assistants who work in the RAD programme in hospitals, clinics and Community Rehabilitation and Development Centres (CRDC). The APA is responsible for working with the national Physiotherapy Officer in developing the physiotherapy component, facilitating training programmes for the physiotherapists and ultimately striving towards a high standard of treatment and care of physiotherapy patients in the different centres. The mid term objective of RAD is to integrate its physiotherapy staff and other physical rehabilitation staff into the health services of the Ministry of Public Health over the next 5 - 10 years. The APA will work with the RAD technical unit to ensure that there is good coordination both within the RAD programme and with external actors in physiotherapy, disability and providers of rehabilitation services. A particular focus will be developing the physiotherapy component in light of community based physiotherapy, and also in promoting the shift of physiotherapists into national healthcare structures. This is in line with working towards a sustainable solution for physiotherapists in Afghanistan, and ensuring comprehensive services for persons with disabilities. RAD is situated in four project regions and considerable travel to see the physiotherapists and supervisors in their regions will be expected of the postholder. Responsibilities Technical Support and Advice - To give advice in order to develop the quality and impact of physiotherapy services within RAD. - To support and advise the national Physiotherapy Senior Technical Officer (Afghan counterpart). - To participate in reviewing and monitoring progress of implementation activities in RAD - To revise and support the work of community based physiotherapy work, and support the inclusion of physiotherapy services in national healthcare services Capacity Building - To assist in identifying needs for training and capacity building - To support the physiotherapy supervisors and clinical supervisors in their work Networking and Advocacy - To actively contribute to good relations and linkages with external stakeholders and networks - To partake in defining and implementing appropriate advocacy work - To facilitate international contacts as relevant' Miscellaneous Tasks - To actively contribute to the successful development and good reputation of SCA - To do any other tasks deemed necessary within the field of professional competency - To write and submit reports about the work after fieldtrips, trainings and other such activities Entry Requirements Qualifications: University Bachelors Degree in Physiotherapy or higher Experience: Professional profile and experience of physiotherapy in a developmental context Experience with working with a professional association Experience with teaching and management Others: Experience from Afghanistan or similar relevant environment Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Good planning, analytical and troubleshooting skills Team worker Ability to cope with a stressful environment Proficiency in English essential Knowledge of Dari and/or Pashto an asset IT and computer literate
