Arbetsbeskrivning
Statistician, PET 2016/582, for employment at Core Facilities, Sahlgrenska Academy at University of Gothenburg.
This is a 2 year position at the Core Facilities, with a placement at the Bioinformatics Core Facilities.
The Core Facilities resource centers give researchers access to advanced technical equipment and skilled expertise in a number of disciplines within the Sahlgrenska Academy, see www.cf.gu.se. The Bioinformatics Core Facility provides a wide range of statistical and bioinformatics analysis to researchers mainly at the Sahlgrenska Academy. For more information, see www.bioinformatics.cf.gu.se.
As a statistician you will work in multiple projects, where the analyses and time frames are set up in agreement with the individual PI/researcher. You will collaborate in a core network including researchers, geneticists, clinicians, data system engineers, bioinformaticians and biostatisticians in the development and use of tools for data analysis and data management. You will plan your daily work together with the core manager and you will be responsible for compiling and presenting the project results, so we assume that you can work independently. The role as a consultant places high demands also on your social, communicative and pedagogical ability apart from being an expert in statistical analysis.
Your daily tasks:
The daily work includes establishment of and follow up on bio-statistical analyses targeting biological data (genomics, proteomics, etc.). You will provide consultation support to our users in running fee-for service projects. Thus, you need to be, or quickly become, familiar with new software and, when needed, to write your own program code. Validation of commercial and open source software and teaching researchers on how to use such tools will be another part of your work.
Qualifications:
. You must have a Masters in Mathematical Statistics or equivalent education.
. Knowledge of R or Matlab is required.
. Experience in UNIX/Linux and computer clusters is desirable
. Knowledge of genetics and experience in biostatistics is an advantage
. Since we work with both national and international customers, you should master the English language in speech and writing.
. You should be a person with good communication skills and enthusiasm. Previous experience working in multidisciplinary environments and pedagogical skills are an advantage.
