Who are we?
This summer work will be carried out within the Department of Propulsion Controls & Calibration, which is a part of VOLVO CAR GROUP´s Product Creation and Quality organization.

We are dedicated to electrify our brand in a broad effort with Plug-In Hybrids (PHEVs) and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). At the engineering department of Propulsion Controls & Calibration, we are responsible for design and delivery of the technical solution of Traction Battery systems for electrified vehicles. We are the core competence center in Northern Europe in regards to Lithium Ion technology and automotive battery systems.

Volvo Cars 97511 Basic Software & integration group is a new group focused on the Autosar BSW for the Traction Battery, used in electrified vehicles. We are taking major steps in taking SW-development In-house and performing more automated testing to reach improved results.

Background
In electric vehicles, battery management systems (BMS) play an important role. At the top level the battery management system is the interface between the vehicle and the cells within the pack. The BMS of  battery-electric  road  vehicles  must ensure an optimal operation of the electrochemical storage  system  to  guarantee  for safety of passengers,  durability  and reliability.  Besides  the  measurement  hardware  for data acquisition, the real key function of the BMS is corresponding  algorithms  that  provide  the necessary  information  about  the  state (e.g. energy and performance) of  the battery.

What you will do
Develop electrical standardized interface to be used with our light test rig for HIL (HW-in-the-loop). Emulate peripheral sensors that are using the electrical interface. This can be done in e.g. Simulink or Python.

The BSW & integration team is working as a SCRUM team and consists of developers and testers.

Do you fit the profile?
We are looking for a person that is Studying M.Sc. within Electrical Engineering or Computer Science and have experience from Embedded Linux Development (e.g. Raspbian) as well as probing signals using oscilloscope and using version control (e.g. Git). As most of our communication will be carried out in English, we see that you have strong English language skills both spoken and written. It would is meritorious if you have a hobby project available on e.g. GitHub.

Duration
All summer worker positions will take place during the period June-August 2020 for a total work period of up to 10 weeks depending on the position. Note that some departments might be closed for a period during week 29-32.
