What do we offer?
The Strength & Endurance Centre is responsible for the requirement setting and ensuring the two attributes Strength & Endurance and Mechanical Theft Protection. As a competence Centre we provide engineering and projects with technical recommendations and requirements. We also perform analysis and verification tasks, both virtually and physically, from concept phase to maintenance and running production at complete vehicle, system and component level.
We are now looking for a Technical Leader within the attribute Strength & Endurance, this is an essential part of Volvo Cars DNA and the attribute area is one of the most complex and largest. We have a strong heritage of durable vehicles and in the premium car segment the customer expectations are high. The challenge is to maintain the durability perception throughout service life and adept to the changes in the automotive industry towards Mobility Services, Autonomous Drive and Electrification. We are working with new technologies for collecting customer field data (i.e. “vehicle-as-a-sensor”) to enable monitoring of the connected vehicle population and thereby customer correlation and calibration of requirements.

Then you might be the Technical Leader that we are looking for! You will get the opportunity to work with deep knowledge in a practical context together with other experts in this field.
What you’ll do
You will lead the development of the Strength & Endurance attribute, both on an operational and strategic level, and you will ensure cross-attribute alignment. You will drive for an integrated durability approach by defining processes for verification efficiency on component, system and full vehicle level, as well as define activities to meet future technologies.
You are responsible for global surveillance within the area, including customer needs, customer correlation and benchmark. You are the one with insight in customer correlation and usage profile, making recommendations/decisions in case of requirement deviations and product specification deviations including product liability and brand image issues.
You will deliver research work to define new/modified requirements and be supporting in new design and verification methods. A significant part of the role will be to create and maintain relationships and networks both within academy and automotive industry, by among other tasks supervise doctorate programs, thesis works etc. You will also be a tutor internally, expanding the knowledge in the area by courses, mentoring and coaching. You are the expert within the area, carrier of the cutting-edge competence, you will offer technical leadership within Strength & Endurance across Volvo Car Group, you are the “go to” person.
You and your skills
We see that you have an extensive theoretical background (MSc or PhD) and a solid knowledge within automotive, with expertise competence in the area of Strength and Endurance (load analysis, fatigue, mechanics). You have, during at least 10 years, built a significant knowledge and deep understanding of requirement setting, analysis of customer usage and expectations, CAE methods and physical testing.
You are a passioned technical leader, known as the “go-to” person, due to that you easily build trust and are a great communicator. You are interpersonal, comfortable gather and work in a team, and your positive attitude inspires others. You are an architype when it comes to openly share experience and knowledge to develop engineers and colleagues in all units.
You are driven by analyze complex technical tasks, set up strategies, implement and deliver results. You are a visionary that enjoy being in a constantly changing environment. Last, but not least, you have integrity and the courage to challenge both on a technical and leadership level.
