The Norwegian Wind Ensemble are looking for a new Head of Programming

Arbetsbeskrivning

Are you interested in developing programs and artistic content for an imaginative ensemble?

The Norwegian Wind Ensemble was established in 1734 and is one of Norway's oldest cultural institutions. DNBE has two artistic focus areas: early music and real-time music. The orchestra performs nearly 100 concerts a year, in collaboration with curators Peter Whelan (early music) and Geir Lysne (real-time music), as well as with internationally recognized guest artists. The ensemble has a broad range of repertoire, from Messiah to Frank Zappa, to entirely improvised concerts performed on stages in the Østfold region to the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.

DNBE is committed to reaching as many people as possible. This is achieved through extensive collaboration with local, national, and international players within the music scene. The orchestra delivers musical experiences throughout the Østfold and Oslo regions as well as in Norway and abroad. Through comprehensive educational and outreach activities, regional tours, digital concerts, and free concerts, the ensemble provides a wide and varied offering that reaches all parts of the population.

We are now searching for a dynamic Head of Programming who will be responsible for implementing DNBE's artistic vision and strategy plan. The Head of Programming will lead the artistic planning of all the orchestra's output in close collaboration with the program committee, ensemble members, and management. The Head of Programming is responsible for delivering DNBE's season plan on time and within budget and reports to the Managing Director, who has the overall artistic responsibility for the ensemble.

The candidate we are looking for has experience from a similar role in a professional, performing arts organization. You must have an understanding of how an orchestra operates, comprehensive repertoire knowledge, and good artistic instincts. We expect you to actively contribute to and initiate creative dialogue with the ensemble's musicians and management on the development of concerts and activities in a competitive market. Documented experience in negotiations and the ability to build networks of artists, agents, and concert organizers will be an advantage.

DNBE primarily performs arrangements that are tailored to the ensemble's unique orchestration. The Head of Programming should prioritize DNBE's work as a creative and innovative orchestra and realize the artistic capital that the musicians possess. You must have a resourceful imagination that inspires organizers and composers to maintain and promote the orchestra's distinct sound and musical profile, while also prioritizing the audience.

Please feel free to visit out Spotify account and our digital festival, Halden Sessions

DNBE offers competitive salary packages and pension plans, as well as a flexible work schedule. We are committed to diversity and encourage all qualified candidates to apply.

The first and second rounds of interviews will take place in March. The first round will be held digitally, and the second round will take place in Halden.
