The development of Internal Combustion Engines is crucial in order to minimize environmental impact from road transports. Reducing fuel consumption, exhaust gas emissions and noise, as well as developing engines for renewable fuels are important parts of our strive towards a sustainable transport system.

Working as Turbo development leader you develop new turbochargers for Scania’s internal combustion engines. The turbocharger is a vital part of the gas exchange system and has a great contribution to engine performance and characteristics. As a turbo development leader you play a key role in an important area within engine development. By tailoring the best turbocharger design, optimized for performance and quality, the customer will notice and enjoy the result of your work!

Our team

In our team Turbo and Gas exchange performance we are 10 employees – e.g. turbo development leaders, designers and test engineers – working on various engine development projects. Our team is also responsible for the design of turbo installation parts, such as pipes, hoses, sealings and brackets. We also have responsibility for engine auxiliary brake performance.

In the daily work you will:


• Work tight together with abroad turbo suppliers,
• Collaborate with colleagues in our team, as well as other teams and departments within Scania R&D, Purchasing and Production,
• Investigate, analyze and follow-up test results, identify the next step and initiate further investigations and coordinate activities,
• Participate in many different forums, work with and suggest solutions of joint challenges,
• Present progress to different stakeholders and help others to reach our common goal,
• Continuously reflect and improve methods, processes and collaborations,
• Help out and educate your colleagues within your area of expertise.

Background and attributes

You are skillful and meticulous, self-motivated and structured, but not least a true team player with leadership qualities. You work with the details and thanks to your system-level understanding you do wise trade-offs to maximize customer value. To your help you have many colleagues within and outside your team, such as design engineers, testing and simulation engineers, software developers and workshop technicians.

To succeed with this, we think you are/have,


• MSc in Engineering, graduate engineer or equivalent,
• Good knowledge in one or more relevant sciences, such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, rotor dynamics, material science, mechanical design, or similar.
• Broad understanding of internal combustion engine performance.
• Specific experience or strong interest in turbomachinery or related technology.
• Enjoy problem-solving by deep diving in details, as well as balancing system properties.
• Analytical, methodical and accurate.
• Energetic and motivated, as well as responsive and flexible.
• Good communication skills. Fluent in spoken and written English. Understanding spoken Swedish is an advantage.
