Multilateralism, Repositioning of the UN System & the 2030 Agenda
The Programme Manager will work on the Foundation’s core programmatic activities as laid out in the Strategic Framework 2018-20 and annual work programmes. The position will focus on the formulation and implementation of work related to the following issues:
Multilateralism and international norms and governance, including trends and the future of multilateralism and the normative role of the UN.
Repositioning of the UN system, with a focus on the form and functions of the UN operative system, management and leadership (ie ethics, integrity, transparency and accountability) and the financing of the UN development system.
Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including targeted awareness-raising and tracking of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) implementation.

As with all of its programmatic work, the initiatives within the Foundation’s work on the areas above – multilateralism and international norms and governance; Repositioning of the UN System; and implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – are inherently linked and integrated with efforts in the other thematic area of Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Implementing the Foundation’s Strategic Framework through development and coordination of activities and projects on multilateralism; the renewal and repositioning of the UN system; and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The latter with a specific focus on the UN’s normative role, its management and financing, including governance and civil service reform in relation to the 2030 Agenda.
Managing and coordinating programmatic work, including planning, budgeting, implementation, training, monitoring, evaluation and learning of the assigned projects and activities.
Organising and facilitating seminars and meetings in relation to assigned projects(s).
Authoring and editing of material (articles, policy papers, reports) related to the assigned projects(s).
Ensuring that programmatic operations and activities adhere to policies and guidelines of the Foundation.
Participating and representing the Foundation in official meetings.
Coordinating and supporting projects and activities across all thematic focus areas of the Foundation.
Participating in team-work on strategy, policy, monitoring and evaluation of the Foundation’s activities.

Qualifications
Master’s degree in a relevant field (eg international relations, political science, global studies), or similar qualifications otherwise acquired.
Minimum of ten years work experience relevant to the mandate and thematic focus of the position.
Experience in implementing or supporting development activities, relevant for the thematic focus of the position, at country or regional level is required.
Experience applying UN human rights norms and principles, including a human rights based approach.
Field experience from multilateral and bilateral development cooperation is a merit.
Experience from development of course material and training of national and international civil servants and/or civil society within development work is a merit.
Professional experience in project and programme management, implementation and support from working with the UN system or civil society engagement with multilateralism, UN reform, the 2030 Agenda and development cooperation.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required. Proficiency in Swedish and other languages are desired.
Ability to maintain professionalism, creativity, and enthusiasm while working in a fast-paced international environment with limited supervision.
Detail-oriented skills and the ability to take initiative to develop activities and programmatic work.
Open-mindedness, flexibility, the ability to be a good team player, and an understanding of the work of a values-based organisation.
Willingness and ability to participate in limited international travel.

Reporting and Relations:
The Programme Manager will report to a Programme Director.
Internal: Support to staff engaged in programmatic work. Collaboration takes place mostly within project teams, but the Programme Manager will also work closely with the Communications Team and administrative staff.
External: Collaboration with partners and external consultants as relevant to programmatic work.

Terms of employment
The Programme Manager will be based at the Foundation’s office in Uppsala, Sweden. Candidates will need to have permission to work in Sweden as the Foundation is unable to sponsor a visa.
Temporary two-year position with six months of probation. Salary will be determined based on the individual’s experience and qualifications.
The Foundation offers generous holidays benefits. Employees up to 29 years of age are allocated 28 days of leave, from 30 years 31 days and from 40 years 35 days.
Pensions are stipulated in the Foundation’s Pensions Policy.
Wellness allowance amounting to 3000 SEK/year based on full-term employment.
