We are now looking for a talented Respiratory & Immunology Lead/Director (CMC) to join our Biopharmaceutical Project Leadership Team in Pharmaceutical Technology and Development (PT&D). This role can be based in Gothenburg, Sweden, Cambridge/Macclesfield, UK or Gaithersburg, US.

Pharmaceutical Technology and Development (PT&D) is the bridge that turns brilliant science into actual medicines that help millions of people. We work across the entire value chain, designing and delivering active ingredients, formulations and devices for new medicines while providing expert technical support to all AZ's commercial drug substances and products to ensure we successfully supply medicines to patients.

What You'll do
As Respiratory & Immunology Lead/Director (CMC) you will be responsible for delivery of a Portfolio of projects in the Respiratory and Immunology (R&I) within PT&D. You will be PT&D senior representative on key internal/external governance bodies including the R&I TA Leadership Team, working collaboratively in a cross-functional and international environment to influence the development of AZ's development and commercial drug portfolio. You will have the opportunity to shape AZ strategy for the R&I area, and be expected to lead the development of opportunities/business cases in the CMC (Chemistry Manufacturing and Controls) area for consideration at an enterprise level.

You will act as line manager for talented CMC Project Leaders (Global Pharmaceutical Project Directors). These project leaders lead the development of robust CMC project strategies and efficient delivery taking projects (typically from Ph2b) through key business investment decision points, transfer to Operations and CMC related contributions to LCM (Life cycle management). A major part of your role will be to coach and support your direct reports in their development as well as on occasion take on the role as CMC Project Leader for strategically important projects yourself.

In this role you are expected to consistently demonstrate excellent communication skills and influence with stakeholders in these forums in a way that creates value for AZ. The role require excellent inter-personal and people leadership skills both on a team and individual level. The role involves a diverse range of problems/opportunities requiring complex judgements and solutions based on highly developed levels of conceptual thought, strategic vision and analysis.

You will report to and work very closely with the Head of BioPharmaceutical Project Leadership in PT&D and be part of developing this organization who deliver project across the whole Biopharmaceutical Therapeutic Areas; R&I (Respiratory and Immunology) and CVRM (Cardiovascular, Renal, Metabolism)

Essential Capabilities You bring to enable success in the role
* Scientific degree (or equivalent experience)
* Strong knowledge of R&I Therapeutic area (TA) with a track record of successful contributions to respiratory and/or immunology drug development projects and/or TA strategies
* Background of matrix and line management promoting, motivating and empowering others to accomplish individual, team and organizational objectives
* Business enterprise mindset with good knowledge of the broader business, having the ability to influence strategically at an company enterprise level and persuade subtly, to acquire desired outcomes while maintaining effective, positive, organizational relationships
* Demonstrates conceptual, innovative and critical thinking

Desirable capabilities
* A good working knowledge of project leadership approaches within the pharmaceutical industry and experience from working with projects from phase II through commercialization and LCM.
* Effective leading of large cross-functional projects including internal and external stakeholders
* Good working knowledge of a CMC organization
* Ability to develop & implement an end-to-end Pharmaceutical strategy across all CMC areas aligned with the overall GPT strategy and clinical/commercial supply strategies.
