The arena

Pharmaceutical Sciences is accountable for the design and development of synthetic routes, preclinical and phase I/II formulations, encompassing both small molecules and new modalities such as mRNA and oligonucleotides, across the whole range of AstraZeneca´s therapeutic areas.

The manufacturing unit within Early Product Development and Manufacture (EPDM) in Gothenburg, Sweden is accountable for manufacture of a vast portfolio of early investigational medicinal products. At AstraZeneca, we are constantly building and investing in cutting-edge technologies to fast-forward the pace of our science. We are currently building a state of the art continuous manufacturing line and parenteral manufacturing asset. To drive future development there is also big focus on digitization and use of AI. As part of these investments, we are now looking to strengthen our team within manufacturing, but also support development of our advanced technical systems and equipment.

The role

This is a unique opportunity on a Scientist or Senior Scientist level to combine development of technical assets with hands on manufacturing in our GMP facilities.

You will be part of a highly motivated, collaborative and delivery focused team. In combination with the work in the manufacturing facility, you will also have other areas of responsibility such as SCADA controlled manufacturing equipment and associated process systems. Authoring or reviewing of documents related to manufacturing or validation activities is also an important part of the role.

This is a role where you are expected to influence and drive development of process equipment including digitization and automation to enable adaption of manufacture for future needs. The work is performed in a cross disciplinary environment in close collaboration with colleagues from other departments and areas of expertise. You will drive initiatives both within the technical area but also to further improve flexibility and productivity, resulting in shorter lead times or increased value for customer.

Essential for the role:

* MSc or BSc in Engineering
* Team player that thrives in cross functional environment
* Strong technical expertise within Chemical, Mechanical, Mechatronic Engineering
* Interest in novel technology and ability to handle technically advanced equipment and systems
* Knowledge and experience from commissioning and implementing new technology
* Excellent communication & documentation skills

Desirable for the role:

* Experience from GMP-manufacturing
* Experience from formulation development, scale up or cleaning validation
* Ability to rapidly develop strong competence within relevant process technologies and build credibility and ability to drive and secure product establishment and scale-up
