Are you passionate about infrastructure engineering in an agile software development context? We are looking for a Senior Infrastructure Architect to strengthen our IT infrastructure team with someone skilled in core infrastructure components such as databases, servers and storage in traditional on-premise solutions and also on cloud solutions as landing zones, IaaS and PaaS. You have a deep understanding of IT infrastructure technologies, ecosystems and governance in general. As Volvo Cars is on an ambitious journey to modernize and automate our current infrastructure landscape by utilizing modern cloud services, we are looking for skills that could help us bridge and transform technology and services from datacenter centric to cloud centric solutions.

Initial focus will be on the Gothenburg on-premise enterprise data centers, which host most of the applications, servers, storage, and information needed to support our business functions and markets. Moving our workloads to the Azure Cloud platform is part of a bigger digital transformation to support the company's business ambitions.

You will join the Volvo Cars Digital Platform Products team and become a part of our exciting journey towards a product-oriented software company. The team is located in Gothenburg but we also have teams in US and in China. You will be part of the journey as we deliver on our company’s vision and scale our services globally. We ensure high quality and adaptability in our delivery. Of course, we have fun together while doing it!

What you’ll do 

In general, infrastructure engineering and architecture support objectives to ensure that a reliable, consistent level of services are available to IT service consumers. Our team work closely with the global support and operation teams to ensure the best possible core infrastructure deliveries in the compute, storage and database area. As a Senior Infrastructure Architect, you’ll help us build new iterations of the Volvo Cars infrastructure stack to adapt to a cloud-driven environment. You will participate in assessing existing platforms, designing future state, and building transition in order to migrate both applications and infrastructure to a highly resilient environment. We’re increasingly motivated to operate globally and across multiple public cloud providers.

With an always-on mindset and high sense of urgency, you will be assisting departments globally (Engineering, Operation & Maintenance) in designing, configuring and managing solutions for their devices, tools, and applications. You will be in close interaction with Product Owners, Tech Leads and business representatives to capture new requirements, test new architectural patterns, develop and deliver cloud future state architectures and roadmaps according to industry best practices while supporting our growing application teams.

Do you fit the profile? 

You have at least a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent experience in a relevant field. You are fluent in Swedish and English, both verbally and written. You are experienced at working within agile development practices and teams that use collaboration tools such as Azure DevOps or alike.

You are an engineer or architect with 10+ years of relevant IT experience with working knowledge of Linux based systems including hardware, software, networking and storage. Preferably you have comprehensive knowledge as an enterprise systems administrator in a client or server environment, including skills in installing and operating SQL databases. As we are shifting workloads out from our central datacenters to hybrid and public cloud platforms/services, documented experience and knowledge about largest hyperscalers and their services are meriting, including IaaS, PaaS and SaaS. Microsoft Azure or other public cloud management and architecture design experience is preferred.

As a person, you are team focused and passionate about solving problems. You are flexible, open to new ideas and always looking for ways to improve. You are technical but with the right amount of service governance administration skillset. You are energetic, forward-thinking and you push for innovation. You are excellent at communication, presenting and relationship building with teams and global stakeholders. You have a holistic viewpoint and being value-oriented, with an ability to inspire and motivate others in working towards a goal. You are self-motivated and strong driving force for driving change and implementation, but also willing to take risks and experiment. Knowledge within automotive industry and SAFe methodology is meritorious.
