The department has three scientific divisions, Algebra and Geometry, Analysis and Probability Theory, and Applied Mathematics and Statistics and conducts successful research in pure and applied mathematics and mathematical statistics in a wide range of research areas. We have an international environment with frequent exchanges with other universities around the world. The department provides a friendly, creative, and supportive atmosphere with a steady flow of international guests. There are many committed teachers with extensive and broad experience of all aspects of higher education. More information about us can be found on our website: http://www.chalmers.se/math/

Our department continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all our activities. We work actively to be a parent-friendly organization.

At the department of Mathematical Sciences there are many internationally successful researchers in a wide variety of research areas. The research group Complex Analysis of Several Variables at the Division of Algebra and Geometry conducts research in areas such as multivariable residue theory, analysis on singular spaces, Kähler geometry, positivity of direct image bundles, and pluripotential theory.

More information about our research group can be found here: https://www.chalmers.se/en/departments/math/research/research-groups/complex-analysis-of-several-variables/Pages/default.aspx

We are now looking for one doctoral student in any of the research areas of the research group Complex Analysis of Several Complex Variables.

Major responsibilities
As a PhD student you will be part of an international research environment while you expand your knowledge of the field and write your thesis. This gives opportunities for many inspiring conversations, a lot of autonomous work and some travel. You are expected to develop your own ideas and communicate scientific results orally as well as in written form. The PhD education consists of four years full-time studies. In addition, the position will normally include 20% departmental work, mostly teaching duties.

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to four years; it may be extended up to one year if departmental work is carried out.

Qualifications
Applicants must have a strong background in mathematics. They must have obtained a master's degree or a 4-year bachelor's degree, or expect to complete that degree by September 1, 2020. Experience in some of the following areas is meritorious: complex analysis, algebraic geometry.

It is important that you mention in the application your specific research interests. You should also include all relevant work such as bachelor's or master's thesis and articles (provide an English summary if necessary) that you have authored or co-authored. Evidence of mathematical problem solving skills is significant, besides course grades.

The bachelor's level teaching is normally in Swedish, although the teaching at the master's and PhD levels is in English. Thus, good language skills are required.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
