Professor of Fine Art with focus on painting
Located in the middle of Stockholm, the Royal Institute of Art (KKH) is Sweden’s largest and oldest centre for education in the fine arts. Currently, the university is undergoing a strong development phase in order to build the future’s next form of art education. We are now seeking a professor of fine art with a focus on painting.

Workplace description:
The Royal Institute of Art offers undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate level courses in fine art, as well as postgraduate courses in architecture. It is an interdisciplinary environment that promotes the exertion of and encounter between different artistic expressions through experimentation and risk-taking. Within the school’s five-year programme (at the bachelor’s and master’s level), each student participates in a mixed-level tutoring group, and everyone designs their own academic course-plan under the guidance of a supervisor. The university offers a wide range of courses, projects, and exhibitions, and gives students the opportunity to develop their artistic practices in studios and workshops as necessary. The environment is an international one, and is in step with the current developments in contemporary art. Here, the future of art finds its newest form under the guidance of a multi-talented faculty.

Description of tasks:
As a professor of fine art with a focus on painting, you will guide a group of 20 students and plan the teaching of the tutoring group together with your immediate supervisor. The tutoring group consists of students who work in all forms of fine art, and you are expected to mentor and teach students regardless of their artistic medium of expression. The position’s focus on painting means that you will be responsible for the development of painting as subject matter and practice at the university. This is done in close collaboration with other teachers in your subject area. Painting has held a prominent place at the school and has done so since the institution’s founding in 1735. As a professor of fine art with a focus on painting, you will carry that tradition forward, and into the future.
The position includes:
· Teaching and supervision of students at the bachelor’s and master’s level. Doctoral level supervision may also apply
· Organizing instruction in the tutoring group together with your immediate supervisor
· Individual development in the subject area (painting), and contributing to pedagogical development at the university
· Responsibility for obligatory courses and examinations
· Collaboration on the planning of educational programming
· Participation in university-wide work, such as admissions and administrative work
· Participation in and development of the university’s national and international network
· Participation in and contribution towards development work
· Conducting independent artistic research

Requirements:
The position is based on artistic merit, in particular for those who have:
· Demonstrated artistic skill, particularly in painting
· Demonstrated pedagogical skill
Assessment Criteria:
KKH pays particular attention to artistic skill in the area of painting. These skills should be demonstrated through well-documented, independent artistic experience.
Educational (pedagogy) skills include:
· Strong ability to implement and develop high-quality education at both basic and advanced levels
· Strong ability to stimulate and develop student learning
The term ‘educational skills’ also includes pedagogical commitment and engagement.
The assessment of pedagogical skill will be given as much attention as artistic skill
Other grounds for the position’s assessment include:
· Very good ability to conduct and develop education in fine art, especially with regards to the subject area of painting
· Extensive knowledge of the application of painting methods
· Good international view of painting in the field of fine art
· Good ability to collaborate with society-at-large
· Administrative skills and abilities in overall management and planning
· Good ability to co-operate with others; a sense of responsibility and mature leadership
· Active international network and professional experience within the subject area
· Strong abilities in written and spoken English

Proficiency in Swedish is not required for employment, but the applicant is expected to learn Swedish within two years, and to then master both spoken and written Swedish.
The level of employment is 100% for a period of five years, with the possibility of renewal for a maximum of an additional five years. Employment as a professor has the following time-distribution of work: 40% teaching, 15% university-wide work, 20% development work and 25% research. The results of work within development- and research-time should be presented to colleagues and students at the Royal Institute of Arts as well as the surrounding community.
The Royal Institute of Art wants to take advantage of the quality added to the work environment by an even distribution of gender, as well as by ethnic and cultural diversity, and welcomes all applicants who contribute to this goal.
