Role Description: Assistant Principal - Academics

IES Solna is a new school, opened in August 2022. As we expand into our second year, we require an Assistant Principal of Academics to drive our target to achieve high academic achievement. There is incredible potential to develop teaching and learning with students who are motivated to achieve their potential and beyond. 

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced senior leader to join our team, in the role of Assistant Principal - Academics. Working closely with the existing Senior Leadership Team at IES Solna, the successful candidate will lead the school's pedagogical and academic work as we continue to develop our clear academic vision built around ‘core knowledge’ and ‘cultural literacy’.  They will have a comprehensive understanding of both concepts and be able to ensure that they are embedded into our curriculum as we develop and implement the adoption of the new National Curriculum LGR22. 

Specific focus will be on developing staff training, developing formative assessment and bilingualism, and working with heads of departments and staff undertaking förstelärare projects to drive high standards as our school develops. We are now a Cambridge accredited school and we will begin in August delivering Math and English (second language).

Visible leadership is critically important at IES Solna and the successful candidate will be able to balance the need to be a clear, calming and motivating presence within the school alongside the ability to work with the strategic development of all academic areas of the school. They will be forward thinking, a positive role model and have the ability to inspire both staff and students. While working within the agreed board academic frameworks, they are expected to be autonomous with the ability to think creatively and find solutions to complex problems. The successful candidate will have teaching qualifications, a proven track record undertaking an academic role within a senior leadership team and a commitment to working with all aspects of senior leadership within a challenging but rewarding educational context. 

IES Solna is a Swedish compulsory school, educating students in years 4 to 9. The school is bilingual (Swedish and English) and about half of our teachers and staff come from outside of Sweden, lending the school a strong international profile. The selection process is ongoing.
