Au Pair/California

We are very excited to participate in an au pair exchange program.We see it as an excellent opportunity to exchange cross-cultural insights and share in the emotional and intellectual development to our children.We also have a small, elderly dog.My husband is a professor of economics.He teaches in the Masters of Business Administration program throughout the year, but primarily during the summer months at the university's campuses in London and Singapore.Before starting a family, I was a consultant for healthcare companies.I now work part-time from home.writing articles on the industry for a major consulting firm.Both my husband and I have great flexibility in our schedules and so we are often working in our home offices.My personal hobbies include fiction writing and drawing; I also make time for yoga, dance, and long walks.My husband is an avid woodworker.In our basement he has outfitted a workshop and he spends many weekends making toys for the girls or building custom pieces of furniture.Our daughter loves to pretend-play, sing songs, and amazes us in the way she comes up with silly jokes.Our other daughter a sweet, easy-going baby.Both of us spend a great deal of time with our children, who have full schedules of their own.Our older daughter goes to classes two or three times a week (music, gym and art) along with playmates with other 2-year-olds. We find that keeping up with their schedules as our own, not to mention maintaining our household, creates a situation where we often find it hard to give them our undivided attention.We also follow an attachment parenting philosophy, so our children are soothed to sleep rather than left to cry.An au pair, we hope, will give us an extra pair of hands with them so that they can continue to receive plenty of one-on-one attention from both parents.During an average week, we expect the au pair to help get the girls ready in the morning, attend a. few classes with them, play with one or both of them in the afternoon, and help with their bedtime routine two or three times a week. We are also excited about the au pair program because it is a wonderful opportunity for cross-cultural education.Both my husband and I are from first-generation families with strong ties to our parents culture and history.My husband's father is from Norway, and my parents are from China and Taiwan.
