Dear Au Pair We are a repeat host family, having welcomed two Au Pairs into our home each of our Au Pairs stayed in our home for a year and have become members of our extended family.Since our children were older, we decided to just have them attend school and/or day care.After about two weeks, the children were begging for another Au Pair!They clearly enjoyed coming home after school each day and interacting with their Au Pair.We have 3 girls: Kate (11), Jane (8), and Josh (4).We also have a 1-year-old dog name Daisy.He is part Labrador retriever and part Beagle.We have been married for almost 14 years.Paul grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico and I grew up in Indiana.We met and married while we were both living in Fart Worth, TX.We settled in Canton, ME, a suburb of Ann Arbor and Detroit.Reasons for Wishing to Have an Au Pair There are several reasons for pursuing childcare in the form of an Au Pair versus the other avenues open to us.The opportunity to bring an understanding of a foreign culture to our family stands out as the most important.We lived abroad in Korea for a year and greatly enjoyed the experience and perspective it has brought us, and would like to offer similar experience in diversity to our children Further, we have observed the rewarding life relationships formed in the hosting of Au Pairs in our home Each Au Pair has become a member of our extended family.We also believe that the ability to provide care in our home versus shuttling the kids back and forth to day care every day will cut down on daily stress for everyone concerned.Most Important Qualities for the Au Pair Honesty, a good work ethic, and a love of children are of prime importance The Au Pair must set a good example morally and ethically for the children, and have a desire to interact with them in a way that will form a strong bond.Everything else really is secondary.
