Au Pair/Connecticut

We are a new family this year, having heard of the Programme through good friends who have been on the Programme for several years.I am a kindergarten teacher and my husband runs his family's plumbing business.We have two children, a son who is three years old and a daughter who was born in April this year. Our son is a very lively young man, and he has been very loving towards his new little sister.We all enjoy going to the park, or the mall, swimming in my parent's pool or taking a walk round the neighbourhood.We take an annual vacation each year in Long Island and also visit my parents' winter home down in Florida.Our home is in Connecticut where both my husband and I were born and grew up.We love it here and value the diversity in the community.There are lots of theatres and museums, and we are only a short train ride from Manhattan.It's a great place to get a taste of suburban and city life.As a child, I had the experience of living in other countries and of having au pairs of different nationalities. I would like my children to also grow up having an appreciation of different cultures from an early age.Obviously we are looking for our au pair to take care of our daughter during the day, as well as taking our son to his nursery school and taking him to any activities he has on afterwards.Most evenings, the au pair will be free.However there are the odd evenings when I will need the au pair's help to give the children their evening meal and put them to bed.My parents always worked hard to include our nanny's in family life, and I will do the same with our new au pair.My friends and extended family, I know, will also make our au pair feel welcome.We will all be considerate of our au pairs' feelings and beliefs.I know how important communication is, and although I am happy for the au pair to make day-to-day decisions, the major rules and decisions will remain with my husband and I.
