Au Pair/Livermore, California.

I am sorry to have to add that we lost their mother (my wife) to breast cancer 1 ½ years ago.Her name was Meredith, and her death is the reason we need the help of an au pair.We have lived in southern Sweden for 4 years.We would like to have a little bit of Sweden with us in the US, so we wish to hire a Swedish au pair.Jonathan and Stephen both speak Swedish fluently, and I want them to keep this language skill.For this reason, I'd like us to speak Swedish at home (I can speak some crude Swedish, and I'd like to get better myself).We want to make kanel bullar now and then; to have a kräftskiva in August; lucikata, pepparkaka and glög at Christmas, and to have a riktigt jul bord; semlor for lent; and färska potatisar, sil and jordgubbar for midsommar - all of that in addition to the American traditions.Right now we have an au pair from Germany (Sandra) and she probably works about 20 hours per week and has almost every weekend off.What I need is somebody who will be at home when the boys come home from school.I need an au pair who will ensure that they sit down and work hard on their school work  after a break (fika) of courseâ.I also need somebody who can help them when they get stuck with their lessons.I can help with lessons as well when I get home from work, but they need to get started without me.In addition, there are times when I go on trips to short meetings or conferences.I need somebody who will keep things running at home when I do that.How does the au pair fit into our family?What matters most to me is that I can have confidence in the au pair.Other things depend upon the personality of the au pair.I always try to allow people to be themselves and do what is natural for them.Livermore is just over 1 hour from San Francisco (by train even!) which offers many exciting opportunities.Livermore is also 3 hours from the summit of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.We plan to go snowboarding there, even for just one day on some Saturdays.The au pair is welcome to join us.We often take road trips in the US; to Seattle (I have a sister who lives there) or Colorado (another sister lives there, they have a condominium at the Winter Park ski area) for example.We also plan to go camping and backpacking in the Sierras.If the au pair wants to come along on any of these trips, var så god.
