The International Chemical Secretariat (ChemSec) is one of the leading non-governmental organisations promoting a non-toxic environment in the field of chemicals policy.ChemSec monitors and informs about research results, new policies, and business initiatives, and thereby serves as a resource for NGOs, politicians and companies on chemical issues.It collaborates with allies in the civil society and stimulates progressive forces in business.The work focuses on the European Union, but ChemSec also follows global policy processes closely and collaborates with NGOs in several regions worldwide.Description The Director works under the responsibility of the ChemSec board and has executive responsibility for all activities.She or he organises and develops the organisation and serves as principal spokesperson internationally.The Director leads the office and its five to six persons.She or he plans and often takes active part in advocacy work and the set-up of external collaboration, and represents ChemSec and its views in meetings with e.g.public institutions, NGOs, and companies.The Director presents proposals on strategic plans, policies, work plans and funding for the board.She or he manages staff issues, is responsible for financial management, and has continuos contacts with the member organisations and NGOs worldwide, and therefore travels and works outside normal office hours regularly.Qualifications The Director should be a well-experienced, collegial and action-oriented leader, with a high capacity to think creatively and strategically.She or he should be a highly skilled communicator, with excellent public speaking ability and skills in English and one more international language, and experiences of engaging in constructive dialogues with a broad range of people.The Director should have the ability to work quickly and under pressure as part of a dynamic team.She or he should be self-motivated and have a strong personal commitment to environmental and health protection.The Director should have great experiences with environmental problems and policies, with far-reaching personal contacts and networks.She or he should be knowledgeable with chemicals issues, have good working knowledge of environmental decision-making processes, in particular of the European Union, and should have senior-level advocacy or policy experience.Other information Salary will be competitive and dependent on experience.The office is placed in Sweden.It is preferred that all materials be submitted via email.The position is opened until filled.Starting Date: as soon as possible.ChemSec was founded in 2002 by the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation, WWF Sweden, Nature and Youth Sweden, and Friends of the Earth Sweden, which now constitutes the board of ChemSec.The work is funded by grants from foundations and authorities.For further information, please see www.chemsec.org.
