We are now looking for a Clinical Trials Operational Analytics Specialist for a consult assignment at AstraZeneca.

The Arena:

• The Advanced Analytics Centre (AAC), within Biometrics & Information Sciences (B&I), which is part of Global Medicines Development
• B&I drives good design to generate the data needed for quality decision making. The goal of B&I is to deliver value to the AstraZeneca pipeline by excellence in delivery, improving decision making, and engaging and shaping the external environment whilst accessing and implementing innovative solutions
• The AAC uses a blend of scientific & technical skills (statistics, informatics, mathematics, computer science, operations research) to develop & deliver cutting-edge methods which address critical scientific & business questions in drug development
Tasks and responsibilities/The role:

• Provide advanced analytics support to activities related to the optimisation of clinical trial protocols
• Design, perform and interpret analyses of historical clinical trial operational data, using statistical and computational techniques (e.g. machine learning)
• Interface and integrate with AstraZeneca teams that run clinical trials, in order to: (1) facilitate use of analytics tools (e.g. costings tool); (2) learn about and gain an in-depth understanding of issues on the ground
• Integrate data from internal AstraZeneca databases (e.g. IMPACT, ACCORD, OPAL) and external databases (e.g. DrugDev, SiteTrove, TrialTrove)
• Develop algorithms and rulesets to be implemented for decision support
• Lead and steer development of software tools, to be used in clinical trial design and execution
• Develop costings tool for clinical trials, to work across a number of therapeutic areas, and embody pre-defined optimised rulesets
Minimum requirements

• MSc or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Informatics, Computer Science or related field
• Hands-on skills in statistics, scientific computing, machine learning and data manipulation
• Understanding of operational aspects of design and conduct of clinical trials
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong relationships


Preferred experience and key factors

• Experience of working in the pharmaceutical industry, preferably AstraZeneca
• Excellent collaboration required – needs the energy and tenacity to work across global & functional boundaries both internally and externally
• Specific skills in on or more of R, Python, Spotfire
• Must enjoy operating in the presence of uncertainty, seeing the freedom that brings as a positive
